Western Anhui is the collective name of one city and five counties in Dabie Mountain area in western Anhui, namely Lu 'an and Huoshan, Shucheng, Shouxian, Huoqiu and Jinzhai.

Anhui province is located in the west, which is close to the mountains and Huaihe River, connecting the east with the west. It borders Henan and Hubei provinces in the west, Hefei in the east, Fuyang and Huainan in the north and Anqing in the south. Looking across the Huaihe River and connecting Hubei, Henan, Anhui and the Central Plains, it is the central area of Dabie Mountain Economic Zone along the Huaihe River. Located in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta with the most dynamic economy in China, it is also the frontier zone to undertake economic radiation and industrial transfer in the eastern coastal areas.

Western Anhui culture has a long history and distinctive features. In ancient times, it was the activity and settlement of Hao Tao tribes. The light of civilization of Hao Tao culture spread from here to China and the world. Chu culture, which grew up in Jianghan and rooted in Jianghuai, is highly mature here. From the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the mid-Western Han Dynasty, it has been an active area for the study and education of Taoism, farmhouse music and Confucianism. The musket invented in the Southern Song Dynasty was the ancestor of tubular weapons. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Yuan Heng's Treatment of Horses, written by Yu and Yu Benheng, was called Compendium of Materia Medica of Veterinary Medicine by later generations. With the revolutionary years in full swing, the Red Army culture is full of enthusiasm, liveliness and uniqueness. There are many kinds of culture and arts in western Anhui, including folk songs, folk dances, folk arts, lantern festivals and folk dramas, which reflect the diligence and wisdom of working people in Jianghuai area and Dabie Mountain area. Western Anhui is also a famous old revolutionary base area, the hometown of the Red Army and the cradle of generals. The Red First Army, the Red Fourth Army, the Red 25th Army, the Red 27th Army and the Red 28th Army were formed and fought here successively. During the war of blood and fire, the people of Lu 'an made great contributions to national liberation and the birth of new China. 300,000 outstanding sons and daughters gave their precious lives and trained a large number of outstanding heroes. Among the surviving PLA officers and men, there are 108 outstanding founding generals, as well as two general counties of Jinzhai and Lu 'an.

Western Anhui is one of the six major tourist areas in Anhui Province with beautiful mountains and rivers, rich cultural resources, a combination of mountains and rivers and many scenic spots. There are 17 A-level scenic spots (districts) in the city, including many 4A-level scenic spots (such as Tiantangzhai, Wanfo Lake, Shouxian Ancient City, Bagong Mountain and Chu Culture Museum). Western Anhui is rich in resources and unique. There are more than 3,800 species of woody and herbaceous plants and more than 500 species of amphibian vertebrates. It is rich in 1 10 kinds of rare agricultural and sideline products and 1400 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines. The output of grain, oil, cotton, hemp, tea, cocoon, chestnut, meat and poultry, down and aquatic products all ranks first in the province, and melons in Lu 'an, white geese in western Anhui and Dendrobium huoshanense rank first in the world. Geologically, it belongs to the eastern part of Qinling orogenic belt, which is an area with active crustal movement and good metallogenic conditions. Mineral resources have the characteristics of large total amount and many varieties. More than 40 kinds of mineral deposits have been discovered and more than 30 kinds of proven reserves have been discovered. Oil and natural gas also have good exploration prospects. At present, there are more than 20 kinds of gold, silver, lead, zinc, molybdenum, peridotite, alunite, granite, marble, quartzite, porcelain stone, bentonite, potash feldspar, limestone, magnetite sand, various building sandstone, mineral water and hot spring water. Among them, the super-large rich mines are Jinzhai Molybdenum Mine and Huoqiu Zhou Ji Iron Mine.
