As early as 2008, BYD started the development of pure electric buses, and in 2012, it even set up a truck project team to start the research and development of pure electric trucks, which made BYD one of the earliest companies to enter into the development of new energy heavy trucks. The company's first step into the field of new energy heavy-duty truck research and development is one of the earliest enterprises.

To date, BYD's product layout in the commercial vehicle field has basically covered seven conventional areas such as urban building logistics, urban commodity logistics, sanitation, and four special areas such as warehousing, ports, airports, mines, etc., and realized the full electrification of its products.

In May 2018, BYD put the first batch of pure electric intelligent dump truck T10ZT in Shenzhen.This is the first pure electric dump model built by BYD.

The vehicle adopts BYD's self-developed iron batteries, with the entire vehicle's power reaching 435kWh, and applies electric integrated axle assembly technology, equipped with high-power dual motors, AMT transmission and 16-ton axles, which can realize different power outputs.

The top load adopts a new type of U-shaped cargo box, with aluminum alloy roof closure system, with on-board intelligent monitoring and other configurations, which can achieve no spillage during transportation and effectively improve the safety of vehicle driving.

At the same time, T10ZT also passed the high temperature test in Turpan, Xinjiang for more than 40 days. It has been tested for more than 12,000 kilometers of total mileage under various complex road conditions such as provincial roads, country roads, gravel roads and large-angle ramps. In the high temperature environment, BYD pure electric dump truck with the remaining ten percent of the power full load driving mileage up to 293 kilometers, environmental adaptability and range have been effectively verified, can be fully adapted to a variety of urban sludge transportation conditions.

Pushing forward the new "silent type man" T31

With the outstanding performance of the T10ZT, in 2020, BYD launched a new all-electric dump truck T31.

Unlike the T10ZT, the T31 models

The T31 is equipped with BYD's hottest lithium iron phosphate battery, with an installed capacity of up to 444kWh, matched with a combination of highly-integrated electronic control and a high-power dual-winding motor, with a peak motor power of up to 390kw, and a driving range of more than 260km under working conditions. Adopting dual 120kW DC charging port design, the charging time is shorter and the operation efficiency is higher.

The T31 has a vehicle size of 9610 2550 3210mm, and adopts high-strength lightweight materials to further reduce the weight of the vehicle, while ensuring the vehicle's carrying capacity. The upper part of the vehicle uses a high-strength and wear-resistant steel U-type cargo box, with a folding rocker top cover, which effectively prevents the spillage of transport materials.

In addition, the T31 is equipped with a new generation of battery thermal management system, BSD blind spot monitoring system, intelligent truck manager and other intelligent equipment, which can greatly enhance the range, safety and comfort of the vehicle, and bring a higher quality of operation experience for the transporter.

Among them, T31 is equipped with the intelligent truck manager, which enables the transporter to grasp the vehicle status in real time, predict the potential failure of the vehicle, and remotely control the vehicle for locking, turning on the air conditioning and other operations, to enhance the user's operational efficiency.

It is understood that, according to the actual operation statistics, compared with the same level of fuel-powered dump trucks, BYD pure electric intelligent dump truck T31 can save more than 300 yuan of operating costs per day, and save nearly 100,000 yuan of operating costs per year.

At the same time, as the new energy process continues to accelerate and improve, many favorable policies for new energy models are also being enacted, and the right-of-way advantages enjoyed by new energy commercial vehicles in front of traditional models have been revealed.

At present, BYD has put more than 3,200 pure electric dump trucks into the infrastructure of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Xi'an and other cities, and in the process of operation, the advantages of low noise, low cost, no pollution, high efficiency and so on are all shown one by one.
