4. Shantou University hosts "Canada Day" On November 24, 2009, Shantou University hosted "Canada Day" with the support of the Li Ka Shing Foundation. The event took the form of a public symposium, during which the opening ceremony of Canada Day and related cultural activities were held.

Li Xianhui, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Consul General of Canada in Guangzhou, Luo Yuanfang, Deputy Director General of the Provincial Department of Education, Li Jian, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Provincial Government, Guo Daqin, Vice Mayor of Shantou, Frank Sixt, Chairman of the Li Ka Shing Foundation, David Barnard, President of the University of Manitoba, Indira Samarasekera, President of the University of Alberta, and Zhou Kaixin, Director of the Li Ka Shing Foundation. Mr. Zhou Kaixuan, Director of Li Ka-shing Foundation, Mr. Xu Xiaohu, President of Shantou University, Mr. Song Zhen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shantou University, as well as professors from renowned Canadian universities and top scholars in the field of life sciences such as the University of Toronto, the University of Manitoba, the University of Alberta, etc. attended the event.

In the afternoon, the opening ceremony of Canada Day was held in the lecture hall of Shantou University's new library.
