What sect of architecture is Potala Palace?

The Potala Palace, located on Maburi Mountain in the northwest of Lhasa, Tibet, is a famous palace-style building complex and the essence of ancient Tibetan architectural art. The Potala Palace was built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songzan Gambo to marry Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty in Tibet.

A 999-room palace was built on the Hongshan Mountain at an altitude of more than 3,700 meters in Lhasa. The top of the palace is covered with gold-plated copper tiles, resplendent and magnificent, which is the essence of Tibetan ancient architecture art.

The design and construction of the palace is based on the law of sunlight exposure in plateau areas. The wall base is broad and firm, and there are tunnels and vents extending in all directions under the wall base.

It is said that this splendid palace originated in the 7th century. In order to marry Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty, Song Zan Gambu, the then Tibetan king, built 1000 nine-story palaces on Hongshan, named Potala Palace.
