Computer BIOS is about to die out completely, and UEFI will take its place.
However, now the BIOS you are familiar with is about to be eliminated, that is, the all-English operating interface, which makes us very headache!
Then the person who will pick you up is UEFI!
Actually speaking of this, I still want to say a few words about BIOS and UEFI.
At present, many friends seem to be very vague about these two concepts, and even many people who often reinstall computers have a little knowledge.
It may be clear that the bios interface is operated in English, while uefi is a visual interface.
In fact, UEFI also belongs to BIOS!
Yes, in essence, BIOS is a startup mode, including UEFI+GPT and Legacy+MBR. Now most new computers use UEFI boot mode to boot the system.
Simply put, UEFI is the new BIOS and Legacy is the traditional BIOS.
But now everyone is used to calling the old mode BIOS, so like this, everyone will call BIOS and UEFI directly.
Let's take a look at BIOS and UEFI!
Why is BIOS eliminated?
When the computer starts, it will load the BIOS, which is responsible for waking up the computer hardware components to ensure normal operation, and then starting the boot loader to load Windows or other operating systems.
And related settings can be made through BIOS, such as hardware configuration, system time, startup sequence, etc. After setting, it will be saved in the memory of the motherboard itself.
However, the development of BIOS can't keep up with the existing technology, and the traditional BIOS has serious limitations, which can only be started from the hard disk below 2. 1TB, resulting in a slow startup process when the computer initializes all hardware interfaces and devices.
What is UEFI?
The full name of UEFI is Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, namely "Unified Extensible Firmware Interface". UEFI is a standard describing a new type of interface in detail, and it is a standard firmware interface suitable for computers.
This interface is used to automatically load the operating system from the pre-boot operating environment to the operating system, thus saving time by simplifying the startup procedure.
From this point of view, UEFI and traditional BIOS are a relative concept, but there is no essential difference in the principle of starting the boot process between UEFI and traditional BIOS!
How does UEFI replace BIOS?
In fact, UEFI has begun to replace BIOS now.
UEFI firmware can be booted from a 2.2TB or larger hard disk, with a theoretical upper limit of 9.4 Zetabytes. In addition, UEFI adopts GPT partition scheme instead of MBR.
UEFI can run in 32-bit or 64-bit mode, and has a larger addressable address space than BIOS, which means the startup process is faster!
So, in essence, UEFI was born to replace BIOS!
Functionally, UEFI's expansibility and execution ability are far superior to the basic BIOS.
The most intuitive thing is that you can see the graphical interface under the UEFI interface, which can be operated with the mouse, which can greatly simplify the self-test process. This is the most basic difference!
Now you set the BIOS, but it's much more convenient than before ~
