The Source of Suffering
Fish Basket
The fisherman set up a bamboo basket in the river that could only go in and could not go out, and put some water plants next to it to lure the fish to come and hide. The fish swim in, thinking they have found a safe haven, not realizing that they are already in the basket.
The same is true of the bamboo basket in the river of love. People only know that when there is no illness or disease, the family house is safe, and the wife and children can be relied on, and they live their lives leisurely, not knowing that they are awakening. Once the king of hell will lift the basket, the dearest people one by one to leave, how can the heart not be annoyed? But what's the use of being annoyed?
Silkworms
Silkworms make cocoons, up and down, left and right winding, spit out all the belly to complete, thinking that from now on can always live in it, safe and sound. But I don't realize that my own hard work is just a self-inflicted pain in the ass. It spit out the silk self-defense, but do not know that people precisely to it spit out the silk to kill it, millions of insects are put into the boiling water! But the silkworm passes on the cocooning method to its children and grandchildren, who are all thrown into the boiling water. There is nothing more miserable than this!
We human beings are also bound to the home cocoon, a lifetime of hard work, for his wife and children to seek clothing and food, and make a lot of effort, and make a lot of grievances. We have just accomplished something, and then we are bound in it.
The first thing I want to do is to make sure that I have a good understanding of what is going on in the world. However, people have passed on this method to their children and grandchildren, and their children and grandchildren have to suffer retribution, but no one has been awakened. There is really nothing stranger than this! Therefore, the Sutra of the Forty-two Chapters says, "A person's attachment to his wife's house is greater than a prison. The prison has a time for release, but the wife has no thought of being far away."
A moth to a flame
When a moth dies in a flame, it does not die in the flame, but in its delusion. Men take pity on it and drive it away, but it will take advantage of its absence and plunge back into the fire. It thinks that it is surely right, and so it goes ahead and dies.
Those who love wealth, fame, and gambling, because they see only wealth, fame, and fortune in their eyes, they will never stop until they die. Why don't these people take the lamp-moth as a lesson?
To ask for half a penny
Once upon a time there was a merchant who lent someone half a penny. The man didn't pay it back for a long time, so he decided to go and collect the debt. There was a big river on the way, so he hired a boat to cross the river and paid two cents. When he arrived at the man's house, he didn't see him. He came back across the river and spent another two cents. He had spent four cents to recover half a penny, and was so tired and sleepy on the way back and forth that he lost a lot of money and incurred little debt, thus attracting ridicule from others.
The world is also like this, for the sake of the petty gains of the world, losing the supreme benefits of the Dharma, incurring bad reputation in this life and falling into the Three Paths in the next life.
