Introductory Knowledge of Rock Climbing

As the development of rock climbing tends to popularize the sport nowadays, more and more people start to contact with rock climbing, understand rock climbing, and enjoy this unique sport of rock climbing. Our circle is also constantly newcomers, so what is rock climbing? What is rock climbing? Many people do not necessarily be able to figure out, so here are some related posts, so that newcomers to rock climbing have a more comprehensive understanding.

First, what is rock climbing?

First of all, what is Rock Climbing? The rise of rock climbing can be traced back to the 18th century European mountaineering. Before that, human beings were very afraid of approaching the mountains, and always thought that it was the place where the devil lived. It was not until the 18th century that some missionaries started to cross the mountains for missionary purposes, and some scientists started to go into the mountains to do some observation and research on natural ecology, and in addition to these people, there were also some industrialists, engineers, bankers, and other social nouveaux riches that were produced by the Industrial Revolution. These people had money and leisure, they began to mountaineering as a leisure activity, at that time, "first ascent" (a mountain was the first time human beings climbed to the top of the so-called first ascent), became the goal of the pursuit of all the mountaineers, when those in the Alpine region, the more gentle and easy to reach the mountain are "first ascent" after the remaining is the cliffs with precipitous mountains, the mountaineers at that time, in order to overcome the snowy year-round ice terrain, and then developed a new way of climbing. Mountaineers at the time, in order to overcome these year-round snow and ice terrain, and then developed a set of hands and feet and climbing technology (Climbing Technique), but at this time, whether in technology or equipment are still quite simple. Until before and after the Second World War, partly in response to the war on special terrain combat needs, only gradually have the prototype of today's climbing movement.

Climbing first became an independent sport in France in 1970. Prior to this, climbing was affiliated with mountaineering, and was only intended to overcome the difficulties of mountaineering; it was only during this period that the term Sport climbing was formalized and given a clear definition.

Since then, rock climbing has taken on a new life of its own, and has developed separately from mountaineering, with more and more people who are not mountaineers, or who have never climbed a mountain, but who find a lot of joy in rock climbing. Most people who are new to rock climbing think that it is a sport for experts. However, in fact, in Europe and the United States, rock climbing has long been a recreational sport belonging to the public, regardless of gender, from the age of 3 years old to 70 years old rock climbers have. Thinking back to our childhood memories filled with happy tree-climbing experiences, it's easy to understand that humans have an innate desire to climb.

The biggest contributor to the development of the sport as a whole was the invention of the artificial rockery. In 1983, Mr. Francois SAVIGNY, a Frenchman, invented the world's first removable rock made of fiberglass, sand, and resin composites, which laid the foundation for the future development of artificial rock. SAVIGNY founded Entre-Prises, the world's largest manufacturer of artificial rock fields.

What is a rock?

Bouldering is a type of rock climbing, but now it is basically separate from rock climbing and has become a separate sport. Rock climbing has been around for nearly a century, since it started in Europe at the beginning of the last century. The difficulty of routes has been graded by adopting the French `difficulty standard and the American difficulty standard. That is, 8a, 5.13a/b and so on. And as one of the climbing sports, bouldering, which has only been around for 20 years, is developing at an astonishing rate.

Bouldering is one of the most primitive forms of climbing: it's a direct form of climbing, with exaggerated, beautiful movements; bouldering from the beginning, with a challenge to the difficulty of showing the human body's potential to climb, with exaggerated strength of the aesthetics. Holding the stone in the common prancing, scurrying and other large-scale action, or the use of extremely slippery, very small pivot point, always let a person power, roar, swaying, swaying, body and muscle extreme curvature, breathtaking, with a strong sense of appreciation.

The equipment required for rock climbing is also very little; only climbing shoes and powder bags are needed, as well as rock-hugging mats; but in any case, it's much easier than the traditional main rope, harness, locks, flat belts, descender, quick-hangs, and so on. Climbing, known as an aristocratic sport, finally has a civilianized branch. For the majority of young people who do not have high income is a gospel.

Climbing is easy to communicate, the atmosphere is warm; hold the rock because the line is shorter, you can let a large group of friends take turns to try, easy to form a mutual communication and learning atmosphere. Moreover, rock-hugging routes are generally denser, making it possible for rock-huggers to gather. We share information and study moves together; *** use rock-hugging mats and protect each other; everyone gets attention and every help comes from the heart. This is the very spirit of the sport. Easy to realize the difficulty of the breakthrough, continuous progress; traditional rock climbing in the 20-meter route often make people exhausted, because of the lack of physical strength and can not overcome the difficulties; and even if a step away from the end of the shedding, but also the previous work is lost, you must start from scratch. Holding the stone is different, was not high, the action is also less, this step can not be done repeatedly practiced, can not finish can jump off the ground immediately to start again, there will be no regrets. You can also let the master demonstration, close observation, hand in hand instructions, very easy to improve.

Hug Rock is rich in resources and easy to develop routes; it takes a lot of effort to develop a difficult route, choosing, clearing, and working at height to set up protection points, etc., so the number of good routes is always limited. And the growth rate of hugging rock routes is far better. A valley with scattered rock, a good eye for what's available, and a few brushes of various sizes can instantly produce several rock-hugging routes. It must be noted, however, that bouldering requires a high level of climbing ability and finger endurance. If safety issues are not addressed, bouldering can also easily cause injuries. Such incidents have occurred among rock climbers in our country. Therefore, before hugging the rock must make adequate preparations to avoid accidents.

I think the reason why hold the rock can be liked by most people, and its own characteristics are inseparable. First of all, its climbing form is convenient and concise, and its movements are exaggerated and beautiful. Second, it requires less equipment and experience than traditional climbing; it only requires a good pad, a pair of climbing shoes and a magnesium powder bag. Once again, it emphasizes the spirit of collaboration, and it can show the gap between climbers' levels in just a few moves. And it can quickly improve a climber's ability to break through difficult spots.

Third, the form of climbing to complete the route

The climber, without the relevant information, the first attempt on the route in the form of pioneering or traditional climbing, not shedding to complete the route. The climber has only observed the route from the ground prior to the climb, has not seen other people climb the route, and has not gotten descriptions or information about the difficulty of the route from other people or articles.

FLASH

A climber who completes a route without shedding the route on the first attempt, in the form of a pioneer or trad climb, when the climber has already been provided with relevant information. The climber can see what others have done on the route before they climb it, can learn the shape and size of the pivot point, and can get a description of the route or information about the difficulties. Completing a bouldering route in the first attempt is also known as FLASH.

REDPOINT

After practicing the route over and over again, the climber completes the entire route by placing protection points as he climbs in the form of pioneers or trad climbers. Once dislodged, this attempt fails, the main rope is drawn down and all intermediate protection points used are removed before the next REDPOINT attempt can be made.

PINKPOINT

Similar to the REDPOINT, except that the intermediate protection points of the route are pre-positioned with quickdraws, the PINKPOINT is very commonly used, especially on big angle routes. Nowadays, climbers are increasingly ignoring the difference between REDPOINT and PINKPOINT.

REDCIRCLE z

When a climber attempts a REDPOINT and fails to dislodge it, the rope and quickdraws remain on the route, and the rope is used to start from the ground on the next climb and complete the route. Previously the climber could have practiced the route over and over, knowing or trying all the moves.

HANGDOGGING

The climber dislodges and then continues from the dislodgement to learn the moves that follow.HANGDOGGING does not in itself signify completion of the route, but is simply a preparation for a REDPOINT, etc. approach.
