How to understand the Confucian view of "father and son hide from each other"

"The Analects of Confucius Luz": "Ye Gong Yu said to Confucius,' Our party has a straight bow, and his father is busy with sheep, as evidenced by his son." Confucius said:' The straightness of our Party is different. The father is the son, and the son is the father, straight in it. ""For Confucius' idea of' father and son hiding from each other', commentators have explained and demonstrated its rationality for thousands of years, and never raised any objection. "Han Xuandi Ji": "The love between father and son, the way of husband and wife, is naturally also. Despite the disaster, there is still life. Sincere love is rooted in the heart, and kindness is the best. How to violate it? From today, my parents, my wife and husband, and my grandparents are gone. His parents hide their children, his husband hides his wife, and his parents hide their grandchildren. They all committed capital crimes. Ask Ting Wei to smell it. " From then on, the ancient law clearly stipulated that the crime of "father and son hiding from each other" was generally not investigated, which was in line with human feelings. Professor Deng Xiaomang published "The Decisive Experiment of" Concealing Relatives "in southern window, which mentioned that Professor Liu Qingping believed that the unhealthy trend of" concealing relatives "was an important reason for the prevalence of corruption in today's society and the siege of Confucian believers. In the Collection of Confucian Ethical Debates-Focusing on Kiss and Hide published in 2005, more than 600,000 words out of 700,000 words attacked Liu Qingping's point of view. In 2007, Deng defended Liu Qingping's point of view, attracting opponents to take turns, and the debate lasted for a year and a half. Deng's articles are all included in the book New Criticism of Confucian Ethics. Deng believes that the Confucian concept of "concealment of relatives" is a contradictory concept. When it protects the affection of one family, it will inevitably ignore and damage the affection of another family. If every family insists on maintaining their affection, it will lead to chaos and lawlessness in the world. Therefore, an authoritarian parent, that is, the people's "parents", is needed to deal with the contradictions between families, which has resulted in the status quo of power sharing in China for thousands of years, and is also the "legitimacy" basis of autocracy in China for thousands of years. The father's bad behavior violated the interests of others, touched the law, and the son exposed it. Ye Gong thinks this is a sign of integrity. Confucius did not say that exposing his father's behavior of provoking sheep could not be considered "straight", but he obviously thought that the level of "straight" was not high. He put forward another expression that seems to be not "straight" but "straight in it", that is, "the father hides for his son and the son hides for his father". How can it be said that parents and children hide their mistakes from each other? This is beyond modern people's understanding, and people's interpretation of Confucius' views is often too simple. Yang Bojun said: "The foundation of Confucius' ethical philosophy lies in' filial piety' and' kindness', so it is said that father and son are hidden from each other and straight in it. "Li Lingyun:" Confucius was a family supremacist, and what he advocated was the honour person taboo, which is a bad tradition in China and still has a good market today. Leaders, parents, teachers, do bad things to cover up, actually think virtue. Whoever doesn't cover it is unlucky. "People's moral character is divided into many levels, but it is impossible to be truly selfless. Because of greed for profit, bad behaviors such as "herding sheep" are very common throughout the ages, and the nature of this behavior is not serious. Things like this belong to the critical point that the law can control and ignore, and should be within the scope of "people don't sue officials and don't investigate". When a son exposes his father's behavior of petting sheep, it can be regarded as abandoning the affair with justice. This is not "putting the family outside the family". The son exposed his father's provocation to the sheep, which shows his son's "honest and frank". The official has nothing wrong with his son's behavior, and even has to be affirmed and praised. But as a result, the father's reputation was discredited, the relationship between father and son deteriorated, the family image was damaged, and the taste of family life changed greatly. According to human feelings, people will naturally expose their father's arrogant sheep through their sons, associate them with the indifference of the emotional relationship between father and son and the unsatisfactory family atmosphere, and even think that their sons want to seek fame by betraying their fathers. Judging from the objective utilitarian effect, I'm afraid my son is too extreme and irrational to do so. "Deserving one's family" is a helpless move and should be understood and affirmed. As for "repaying one's family with small righteousness", I am afraid it is worth considering. Confucianism advocates tolerance and forgiveness for people's deviant behavior, and the nature of sheep's deviant behavior cannot be considered serious. When a son is a son, it can be handled in other ways than reporting. Why "hide"? Because things are disgraceful, the reason for "hiding" is "knowing shame", that is, safeguarding the family reputation. The so-called "wash your dirty linen in public". Judging from the motive of "concealment", it still contains certain positive significance. Children want to "hide" their parents' faults, which hinders justice, but it is natural selection and human relations. In any social environment, it is obviously unrealistic to ask people to "destroy their relatives" and "save their righteousness and destroy their desires" everywhere. Especially in the category of "deviance", there is a difference between solving problems through "rule of law" and "emotional governance". Confucianism advocates "hiding" from parents, but does not advocate turning a blind eye to parents, and children have the responsibility of "admonishing" parents. Although it is dirty clothes, its interior should be solved according to the truth. " "The Analects of Confucius": "My parents made several suggestions, but they didn't follow their wishes, and they didn't violate them, and they worked hard and complained. "The so-called' several remonstrances', also known as' micro remonstrance', means' no remonstrance', that is, gentle remonstration." "Book of Rites under Quli": "As a courtier, if you don't remonstrate, as one pleases won't escape after three remonstrations. Don't listen to the son, cry and follow it. "Book of Rites": "My parents have it, and I am relieved and lightly remonstrated. If you don't enter the remonstrance, you will respect filial piety, and if you say it, you will remonstrate. Forget it, it's better to remonstrate than to offend the cultural station. Parents don't say anything when they are angry, but they are bleeding, afraid to complain and respect filial piety. "Rites of Sacrifice": "Parents have had it, but they are not rebellious. "The Book of Rites Workshop": "Zi Yun:' Being unwilling to be left behind, remonstrating tirelessly, being diligent and not complaining, this is filial piety. ""These materials all emphasize children's dissuasion in the face of their parents' faults. If the child is at fault, parents should bear the responsibility for not teaching well. If parents are at fault, children should also bear the responsibility of not remonstrating. If children can admonish their parents' mistakes at ordinary times, they can reduce the frequency and degree of their parents' mistakes and prevent small mistakes from becoming more serious. When the father is busy with sheep, there will be improper performance of insatiable greed at ordinary times, and the son should dissuade him. It is a fact that the son can remonstrate, even if remonstrate to the point where "parents are angry and say nothing, just bleeding", if the result can be handled properly, it is better than reporting. Isn't there a better way to deal with this kind of thing than to report it? Reporting father's arrogance is undoubtedly an extreme and simple integrity. The practice of "the father is the son and the son is the father" seems to be not straight, but if it is included in the Confucian ideological system, it does have the truth of "straight in it". What do you mean "straight"? I'm afraid it should be the result of pursuing the greatest rationalization. Many contradictions that can be self-regulated and eliminated in the special body of family and affection must be resorted to law, which is probably not a practice that should be advocated. Confucianism has always advocated rule by virtue, rule by courtesy and rule by emotion. The interference of these thoughts in social problems is by no means arranged by a modern thought of rule by law. By the same token, when a son finds his wallet, he takes it for himself and spends it. When a father is faced with such a thing, he has many choices. Is it to directly seize his son's ear and send him to the police station to expose his unjust enrichment? Or educate yourself to take other remedial measures? In this case, should the father "conceal" his son's bad behavior first? Or should it be made public immediately? Faced with this fact, people with different values may have different attitudes, but from the perspective of pursuing the most rational results and the overall structure of Confucianism, it is probably worth considering simply denying Confucius' opinions. " "The Analects of Confucius Yan Yuan": "When I hear about litigation, I'm still a human being, so I won't litigate. "That is to say, I am the same as others when dealing with litigation cases. Everyone acts according to the law, and the goal pursued by Confucius is to stop litigation. It is easy to "go to court" and it is a society ruled by law, but it is difficult to "not go to court" and it is a society of great harmony. On the basis of not abolishing the legal system, Confucianism pursues the realm of "suing grass" through enlightenment. What's wrong with this?
