Watermelon planting method and time

1. Watermelons are planted in spring, probably in March-April. For the north where the temperature is low, the planting time can be postponed appropriately. When planting watermelon, you should choose sandy soil with sufficient sunshine and convenient drainage. After selecting the land, the land should be properly cleaned to remove weeds and rotten leaves in the soil. In order to make watermelon grow taller, we should apply base fertilizer to the soil, such as farmyard manure and compound fertilizer, so that the fertilizer can fully penetrate into the soil.

Second, deep ploughing When the fertilizer and soil are fully combined, it is necessary to deeply plough the land, generally 30cm, to level the land and break the big clods. After soil preparation, make a good border. The height of the border is about 15-20cm, and the width is1.2-1.3m. When the border is finished, it should be covered with plastic film, which can improve the soil temperature and humidity.

Third, soak the seeds Choose a watermelon variety suitable for the local environment, and soak it with clear water, which can make the seed coat soften faster, thus improving the germination rate of the seeds. Generally, soak it for 12- 18 hours. After soaking the seeds, clean them, then put them in a wet towel, adjust the temperature to 20-25℃, replenish water every day and spray water to keep them moist. When most seeds germinate, they can be planted.

4. Planting Sow seeds into the soil according to the on-demand method, wet the soil before planting, and cover the soil after sowing. Emerge about 5-7 days after sowing, and 3-5 days if the climate is warm. After emergence, water properly and strengthen ventilation to make the seedlings grow better.
