How is Timbalada drum group famous?
Nowadays, the younger generation of drummers in Bahia are almost all under the age of 30, which is greatly influenced by Ting Balada. Timbalada was founded by CarlinhosBrown in 1994. He introduced an endangered musical instrument, Timbau (a tambourine evolved from the traditional tambourine, with bright tone and light weight, which is convenient for marching) into the drum troupe, hence its name and reputation.
Strictly speaking, Timbalada is a stage drum group, that is, Banda, rather than a Bloco marching in the streets during the carnival. Their rhythm incorporated more African elements, and more timbu was used in the performance, which made the young people of that era start to learn timbu crazily. Timbalada developed some playing methods and techniques suitable for stage performances, such as fixing three kinds of bass drums Surdos and a Repinique on a shelf (similar to a drum set) and playing by one person.
