Introduction of Hainan Traditional Dwellings

Hainan traditional houses are characteristic houses in Qiongbei area of Hainan, including traditional quadrangles and modern arcades such as Wenchang and Qiongshan. Most of the earliest immigrants in Hainan migrated from southern Fujian, and the early dwellings reflected the profound southern Fujian customs. Subsequently, immigrants from the surrounding areas such as Lingnan, Yunnan-Guizhou and Southeast Asia brought their own culture, and the houses in Qiongbei gradually joined the Lingnan style. At the same time, a large number of Central Plains troops brought Central Plains culture, which made the residential buildings in Qiongbei incorporate some elements of Central Plains architecture. In modern times, a large number of Hainanese went to Nanyang to make a living, bringing back the Nanyang culture influenced by western colonization at that time. Hainan's folk houses were integrated with European style, which not only influenced traditional folk houses, but also brought a new form of folk houses-arcade. The blending of multiple architectural elements is the biggest feature of Hainan folk houses.
