What is wax embroidery and what are its characteristics?
Batik is an ancient traditional textile printing and dyeing handicraft of ethnic minorities in China, which was called wax in ancient times. Together with tie-dyeing and stencil printing, it is called the three major printing technologies in ancient China. Guizhou, Yunnan Miao and Buyi are good at batik.
Batik is to draw flowers on the cloth with a wax knife dipped in melted wax, and then dipped in indigo. When the wax is removed, the surface of the cloth presents various patterns of white flowers on a blue background or blue flowers on a white background. At the same time, in the dip dyeing, the wax as a resist naturally cracks, which makes the cloth surface show a special "ice grain", which is particularly eye-catching. Because batik is rich in patterns, elegant in color and unique in style, it is simple and elegant, fresh and pleasing to the eye, and full of national characteristics when used to make clothes and various practical articles for life.
The main characteristics of batik:
The ice pattern of batik is the most important feature that people admire.
The formation of the ice pattern is that the wax trace of the wax-painted embryo cloth is broken in the constant turning and infection, and the dye solution is soaked in the cracked white cloth, leaving natural patterns that are difficult to draw by hand, such as ice flowers and turtle patterns, which are really wonderful. After the batik cloth with the same pattern is infected, the ice pattern never presents a fresh and natural aesthetic feeling like a human fingerprint.
The batik "ice crack" pattern, similar to the "opening" of porcelain glaze, has great artistic effect. The size and direction of cracks can be mastered by people, and objects can be properly represented and characterized. To dye a multi-color flower nozzle, you can use the method of color separation and wax sealing, which is more expressive. Batik is mainly used to make craft clothes, wall hangings, tablecloths, etc.
