The industrial base in central and southern Liaoning (including a series of industrial cities such as Shenyang, Fushun, Anshan, Benxi, Dalian, Liaoyang and Yingkou) is an important and largest heavy industry base in China. The region is dominated by heavy industries, such as steel, machinery and petrochemical industries.

Extended data:
In addition to the four traditional industrial bases, China also has three high-tech industrial belts: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou and Pearl River Delta.
Major cities in coastal areas generally have developed economies and concentrated talents in education and science and technology. After 20 years of development, they have gained considerable economic strength, and the traditional structure is facing fundamental changes. Choosing high-tech industries in these areas is an objective requirement for structural transformation and efficiency improvement.
At present, there are 52 national high-tech development zones in China, which are distributed in most provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The main purpose of establishing high-tech development zone is to accelerate the industrialization of high-tech achievements and form a certain production base of high-tech products.
