What is the origin of Huangmei Opera?

Huangmei Opera is a local opera art based on Anqing folk music and sung in Anqing dialect. It originated and developed in Anqing area. It is one of the major local operas in Anhui Province and one of the five major operas in China, and is known as "the most beautiful country music in China". Huangmei Opera used to be a famous opera, such as basket picking opera, tea picking opera, flower drum opera, second high-key, Huangmei opera and Huizhou opera. It is also called "Huai tune" and "Fu tune".

Anhui Huangmei Opera Troupe was founded in 1953, and Huangmei Opera was officially named as a new kind of drama. In 2006, the State Council approved Huangmei Opera as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage, and at the same time awarded Anqing Huangmei Opera (local opera) Research Institute as the inheritance and protection unit of the project.

Three Characteristics of Huangmei Opera
