The Difference between Prescribed Grammar and Descriptive Grammar
According to the prescriptive grammar of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary, a set of rules is formulated to stipulate how the language should be used and how it should not be used; Descriptive grammar discusses how to use language objectively, systematically and comprehensively. Prescriptive grammar is very helpful for target language learners to acquire normative language in non-target language environment, while descriptive language pays more attention to the study of language change and culture.
