Why did the ancient wooden tower not fall down for thousands of years?

Because mortises and tenons and bucket arches are used everywhere in ancient wooden tower buildings, all the wood is organically combined, and even if the wind and rain are heavy, these wooden buildings will not be blown down. In China, some wooden tower buildings have been built for thousands of years and still stand tall. For example, the wooden pagoda in Yingxian County, Shanxi Province, according to county records, should be built in Liao Dynasty, which is equivalent to the current 20-story building.

This is quite powerful. Nowadays, buildings need not only reinforced concrete, but also many things to be built safely and stably. However, there are not many nails used in the base of Yingxian wooden tower, but almost all of them are wooden materials. The reason why it has stood for so many years is actually the tenon-mortise fighting arch technology that carpenters know best. For example, when we were young, we watched carpenters make tables, benches and wardrobes. They always rushed out many small round holes or squares, which surprised us. In fact, it is tenon and mortise, so that two or more pieces of wood can be embedded with each other, which is very strong.

China's ancient steel smelting technology was not developed, and iron was generally used as weapons. Therefore, even tall towers are mostly made of wood, just like the Forbidden City in Beijing, which we are familiar with. This is a huge building complex built entirely of wood structures. It was built in Yongle period of Ming dynasty, and later it was rebuilt and repaired by emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties, and it was all made of wood. But until today, the Forbidden City is still so magnificent, without any broken appearance.

The Chinese nation is full of talented people. Even in ancient times, the technology of architecture and towers was at its peak. Even if there was a shortage of materials, the craftsmen could still carve flowers from the wood and connect them to form the strongest support, so a tower jumped up. It is precisely because of the tenon and mortise and the bucket arch that this ancient wooden tower, a technology that embodies the wisdom and sweat of our ancestors, will last for thousands of years.
