Christmas is a western holiday. Why does China worship Christmas so much now?

It is incredible that Christmas is so popular in China. As far as I know, most people in China don't believe in Christianity. The concept of traditional festivals in China has gradually faded among young people. Even during the most important Spring Festival, people have less and less time to go home and reunite with their loved ones. The new year is coming. At this time, people all over the world are celebrating the festival in different ways. Globalization not only promotes international commerce and trade, but also affects the traditions and customs of people in various countries and regions to varying degrees. Take American catering as an example. Every city in the United States has a China restaurant. I believe there is not an American who hasn't eaten Chinese food. Italian, Greek, Thai, Mexican or other ethnic restaurants are all over the United States. It is incredible that Christmas is so popular in China. Just as Americans accept food culture from all over the world, the younger generation in China is also absorbing western culture. For example, they are keen to celebrate Christmas, Valentine's Day and other western festivals. Everything will change because of the change of time and space, and culture is no exception, especially when it needs to be integrated into another culture, it will inevitably change its true colors. For example, Chinese food sold in the United States will taste a little different from that in China, because it needs to adapt to American tastes. Similarly, according to my personal experience in China, the way people in China celebrate western festivals is quite different from the traditional way in the United States. Four years ago, I taught in a university in China for two years. In my teaching process, I found that celebrating Christmas is very popular among students. Students not only give cards and gifts to each other, but also hold dances on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. In addition, many shops decorate Christmas trees and even invite people to dress up as Santa Claus. These are similar to the way Americans celebrate Christmas, but they are not exactly the same. Anyway, I think it's incredible that Christmas is popular in China, because Christmas is a religious festival, and as far as I know, most people in China don't believe in Christianity, and they don't understand the true meaning of this festival. Christmas is a celebration held by Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus, so at first, only Christians celebrated Christmas in the United States and some other western countries. But today, Christmas has become a mixture of religion and traditional culture. During Christmas, people will not only go to church and give gifts to each other as in the past, but also hang Christmas trees and socks by the fireplace to wait for Santa Claus' gifts. It is wrong to regard all this as a traditional way to celebrate Christmas. In fact, about 200 years ago, the Christmas tree began to become a part of the celebration, and the appearance of Santa Claus can only be traced back to the 1930s. Contrary to the way young people in China celebrate, there are no large-scale parties and dances in Christmas in western countries, because in western tradition, Christmas is a day for family reunion, just like the Spring Festival in China. Families get together, have a big meal, open presents under the Christmas tree and go to church together. At present, China people are keen to celebrate not only Christmas, but also Valentine's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and so on. However, the younger generation in China has localized these festivals and regarded them as opportunities to get together with friends. Don't let the tradition decline because of "foreign festivals" While these foreign festivals are popular in China, the situation of traditional festivals in China has also changed. The annual Mid-Autumn Festival was once one of the most important festivals in ancient China. On this day, the whole family will enjoy the moon and taste delicious moon cakes together. In ancient times, many celebrities wrote poems and lyrics for this purpose. However, the concept of "Mid-Autumn Festival" is gradually fading among young people. Even in the Spring Festival, the most important traditional festival in China, the time for people to go home and reunite with their relatives is getting shorter and shorter. Usually, before the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first month, people have dragged their tired bodies back to work. Festivals are an aspect of culture, and culture is constantly changing with the pulse of the world. Every time we celebrate a festival, we are intentionally or unintentionally helping this festival tradition to continue in the culture or make it change with the times. Just as a person's appearance will change with age, so will his life experience, and the change of culture and tradition is natural. With the increasingly close global connection, cultural tradition has become one of the resources shared by all countries in the world. If foreign culture wants to take root somewhere, it must adjust to the new environment. As far as culture itself is concerned, there is no difference between good and bad. But in any case, the loss of ancient traditions is really sad. Nowadays, it is popular for young people all over the world to speak English, wear jeans and listen to English songs. Even religious festivals like Christmas have become popular in many non-religious areas. I'm not saying it's not good, but it does show that traditional culture in many places is declining. Every culture and tradition has its irreplaceable value and should not be forgotten by us with the process of modernization and globalization. Many people think that modernity and tradition are incompatible, but in fact, cultural traditions can continue to exist in modern society. Just as farmers living in traditional farming methods can adapt to the modern life in which mobile phones are inseparable from their bodies for a moment, ancient traditions and festival culture can also be carried forward in this developed modern society. But in the final analysis, it still depends on people. If people decide to abandon tradition, it will inevitably decline gradually. If people attach importance to tradition, it will certainly glow with new brilliance in modern society.
