The Origin Story of Hangzhou Baguatian
Legend has it that this Bagua field was a "hometown field" opened during the Southern Song Dynasty.
That year, Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty fled to Hangzhou with a large number of relatives, friends, officials and bureaucrats because of the fall of the capital of song dynasty. After seeing the beautiful scenery of the West Lake, they stayed and began to build palaces and gardens at the foot of the Phoenix Mountain, starting a new life. During the war, their life was naturally a luxury for people. People in Hangzhou didn't understand that the emperor still lived such a life, and there was a lot of discussion in the street for a time. The wind spread again and again, and finally reached the ears of Emperor Gaozong. The emperor was a little flustered, so he called civil and military officials to discuss.
Civil and military officials discussed it and couldn't think of a suitable way at the moment. Later, a civil servant came up with an idea. He said: "The gossip of the people is nothing more than complaining that life in the palace is too comfortable. As long as the emperor opens up a homeland and says that people in the palace farm here, the people will be convinced. " When the emperor heard this, there was no other better way and he agreed.
A few days later, at the foot of Huang Yu Mountain, a piece of homeland was reclaimed. There are eight piles neatly next to them, and eight thick columns are erected, separated by thick cowhide curtains. Because the emperor cultivated land in it, ordinary people are not allowed to peek.
After a few days, the cowhide curtain was lifted. There are eight hills in it, where eight crops such as rice, wheat, millet, millet and beans are planted. In the middle of Baqiuchang, there is a round mound. When the people saw that the emperor was plowing the land like them, the discussion gradually decreased.
In the season of weeding and fertilizing crops, the emperor would leave the palace to "plow the fields". On the eight thick pillars, cowhide curtains were hung. On Fiona Fang's Shili Road, the body-guards guarded it, and people were not allowed to approach it.
At that time, there was an old man who grew crops. He didn't believe that the emperor would really plow the fields himself. On this day, he got up in the middle of the night, took advantage of the darkness, quietly evaded the body guard, fell in three steps and five steps, climbed the Jade Emperor Mountain, and hid in the cave halfway up the mountain.
Wait, wait, wait, slowly, dawn, the sun rose, the old man looked down, all the people were working in the field, but there was no one in the cowhide curtain. It was not until the sun rose to the height of three bamboo rafts that I saw a man coming out of the palace and walking into the cowhide curtain. The old man opened his eyes and looked at it carefully. Hi! It turned out that several eunuchs were weeding there, but the emperor and his concubine were sitting on the mound in the middle to rest!
The old man didn't understand. He was very angry. He finally waited until it was dark before he quietly touched the mountain. The next day, he told others what he had seen. The news passed around, and all of a sudden, everyone in the city knew. Seeing this, the emperor never went there again. This neat "Bagua Field" has been preserved until now.
