Efficacy and Function of Coptidis Rhizoma (2)
Anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and immunomodulatory effects
Coptidis Rhizoma and berberine have similar anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects as Baotaisong. It can enhance the phagocytosis of white blood cells, activate macrophages and enhance the phagocytosis of reticuloendothelial system without affecting the number of white blood cells. It can inhibit cell division and has synergistic effect with colchicine; It can also inhibit cell respiration and nucleic acid synthesis, and the inhibitory effect on cancer cells is stronger than that on normal cells. Therefore, Coptis chinensis is an immunosuppressant and immunomodulator.
To the digestive system
Coptis chinensis and berberine have two-way regulating effects on gastrointestinal smooth muscle: excitation and inhibition. Low concentration can stimulate smooth muscle, and high concentration can relieve spasm. Berberine has antidiarrheal effect, which can significantly resist diarrhea caused by senna in mice. It may be related to the elimination of intestinal inflammation and edema. Huanglian, berberine and Huanglian Jiedu decoction have obvious protective effects on gastric mucosa and can significantly resist experimental ulcer in rats. Berberine has obvious cholagogic effect, which can promote bile formation and promote the excretion of conjugated bilirubin. Jatrorrhizine is also beneficial to gallbladder function, but its effect is weak and lasting.
Effects on cardiovascular system
Berberine has antihypertensive effect. Its hypotensive mechanism is related to direct vasodilation, inhibition of vascular motor center, anti-adrenaline, inhibition of pressor reflex and anti-cholinesterase. Alkaloids such as Rhizoma Coptidis also have antihypertensive effects. Berberine can excite the heart, increase the coronary flow, significantly improve the hypoxia tolerance of the heart, brain and whole body, and significantly reduce the myocardial oxygen consumption of normal and failed hearts. Jatrorrhizine and berbamine can reduce the range and degree of experimental myocardial infarction. Berberine and jatrorrhizine can antagonize arrhythmia caused by adrenaline. It can significantly reduce ventricular premature beats and ventricular tachycardia induced by mice. Jatrorrhizine also has significant antiarrhythmic effect. ?
Regulate blood, blood lipid and blood sugar
Berberine has obvious inhibitory effect on platelet aggregation. Berberine has significant lipid-lowering effect and can significantly reduce the increase of serum cholesterol in mice. Berberine has hypoglycemic effect on experimental hyperglycemia F mice. Its mechanism is related to the inhibition of liver glycogen heterogenesis and the promotion of grape glycolysis, but has nothing to do with insulin secretion.
Impact on internal processes
Berberine is less absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, and quickly distributes in all tissues of the whole body after entering the blood, and the blood concentration is low. Berberine can be rapidly metabolized into carbonate substances in the body and excreted after defecation.
Other functions
Central inhibition: Berberine and coptis alkaloids have central inhibition, but they have sedative and analgesic effects. Coptis alkaloids have many functions, such as increasing saliva secretion, reducing intraocular pressure, antidiuretic and stimulating ACTH secretion.
Application of coptis chinensis
Damp-heat fullness, vomiting and acid swallowing. Especially good at clearing the heat of middle energizer, it is often used with Suye Huanglian Decoction to treat abdominal distension, nausea and vomiting caused by damp-heat blocking middle energizer and poor qi movement. Matters needing attention in the use of Rhizoma Coptidis
(A) the use of Coptis should pay attention to adverse reactions.
Overdose
Excessive use of Rhizoma Coptidis can cause nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath and spasm. Conventional doses are safer. There are patients with acute cardiogenic cerebral hypoxia syndrome induced by intravenous drip of berberine due to diarrhea. Berberine injection should be avoided as much as possible.
anaphylactic reaction
Oral coptis powder or berberine, injection of berberine has allergic reaction. Most of them occur within a few minutes after taking the medicine, showing dizziness, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, shortness of breath, systemic rash, fever, and even laryngeal edema, confusion, blood pressure drop and anaphylactic shock.
Misdiagnosis syndrome

berberine
(1) What is berberine?
Berberine is an alkaloid, which has been used in China for a long time. It can be extracted from plants such as Coptidis Rhizoma, Cortex Phellodendri, and Sanzhen. Has obvious bacteriostatic effect.
Berberine is one of the most widely known drugs for treating diarrhea, which is cheap, simple to take and easy to carry. Therefore, almost every household has this medicine. Berberine is one of the essential medicines for people, whether on business trip or traveling. Many people think of diarrhea for the first time.
Berberine is a good medicine, but it should not be used indiscriminately, so choose the right one. First of all, Berberine is not suitable for systemic infectious diseases, because it is poorly absorbed orally and almost stays in the gastrointestinal tract, so it is not easy to enter the blood through the gastrointestinal tract, so it is only suitable for inflammatory diseases in the gastrointestinal tract.
(B) the role of berberine
Effects on hyperlipidemia and diabetes.
The latest clinical research shows that berberine has a good preventive and therapeutic effect on hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, arrhythmia, cancer and other diseases.
After a course of treatment with berberine for hyperlipidemia (0.3g each time, three times a day for 20 days), the total cholesterol and triglyceride in blood decreased obviously, which is effective for coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease caused by arteriosclerosis.
Berberine also has the effects of lowering blood sugar and urine sugar. Diabetic patients can take 0.4 g orally, four times a day. After taking 1-3 months, blood sugar can drop to normal level.
Effects on the heart
Arrhythmias in middle-aged and elderly people are mostly related to organic heart diseases, such as coronary atherosclerotic heart disease and myocarditis. Oral berberine, 0.4g each time, 4 times a day for 7- 12 days, can relieve or eliminate discomfort symptoms such as palpitation, shortness of breath and chest tightness, and can relieve or correct arrhythmia. Scientific research results show that berberine can increase coronary blood flow and improve myocardial function, thus reducing the incidence of arrhythmia caused by coronary artery infarction.
Effect on cerebral ischemia
Berberine also has a good effect on preventing and treating transient ischemic attack. Transient ischemic attack is an important risk factor for cerebral embolism. If not controlled in time, about half of them can induce cerebral embolism, leading to life-threatening. Because the occurrence and prognosis of transient ischemic attack are closely related to platelet aggregation, aspirin and other antiplatelet aggregation drugs have long been effective drugs for treating transient ischemic attack and preventing cerebral infarction.
Berberine, like aspirin, can inhibit platelet aggregation and has a wider range of effects, so it is a more effective drug than aspirin. Berberine can be used in the treatment of transient ischemic attack, which is easily accepted by patients because of its wide drug sources and small side effects. Specific usage: 0.9 g per day, taken orally three times, with 30 days of continuous treatment as a course of treatment, which can be used for 2-3 courses.
