Growth Experience

Burgundy graduated from the Music Department of Inner Mongolia Art School in 1965. After graduation, he entered the Inner Mongolia Peking Opera Troupe. Later, he worked as an art editor, reporter and copy editor for the movie magazine Grassland Screen, etc. In 1994, Burgundy returned to Beijing with his lover. In the same year he entered the Chinese Academy of Calligraphy and Art, and is now the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Calligraphy and Art position.

Burgundy was very fond of painting and calligraphy when he was in school, and has been practicing it incessantly since his graduation, creating a large number of paintings and calligraphy works, which have been published by more than 20 publishing houses in China. His calligraphy work, "Buddha", was collected by former table tennis Olympic champion Deng Yaping and is now stored in the UK. Burgundy's calligraphy is strong and powerful, with a wild and unrestrained personality, forming a school of its own. Over the years, Burgundy has gradually matured and enriched his two self-created painting and calligraphy techniques: "Seal Script" and "Line Painting". His masterpieces of calligraphy include "Woo Seal Script in Mongolian and Chinese", and his masterpieces of painting include "Athena" and "Paradise". Among them, "Athena" was awarded the silver medal in the International Fantasy Makeup Exhibition Competition.

In Burgundy's many works, there are a lot of Chinese and foreign celebrities' portrait caricature, among which the most notable one is the portrait caricature of the famous CCTV host Cui Yongyuan, which was shortlisted for the 2006 Spring Festival Gala, and Cui also asked Burgundy to make a copy of it and hang it on the wall of his house. Cui Yongyuan also asked Burgundy to make a copy and hang it in his living room. The reporter asked him curiously: "painted so many portraits of celebrities, have you ever painted a self-portrait for yourself?" Burgundy smiled and replied, "I have thought about this question for a long time, but I have never drawn it. It's too easy to draw myself, isn't it just a bare brain and a pair of bee-like eyes!"
