Appreciation of the sculpture "Hard Times"

Creation background of works

Hard times were written in 1956. That year, the General Political Department of the Central Military Commission prepared an art exhibition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and collected the works of individual artists from all over the country. The creative task assigned to me is to express the brilliant achievements of the Fourth Field Army in liberating Hainan Island with oil paintings. While I went deep into my life to collect materials, I was moved by Hainan guerrillas when the war failed and the revolution was at a low ebb.

What shocked me in particular was the indomitable spirit of fighting alone on the island for more than 20 years. I immediately visited Feng Baiju, a former guerrilla commander of Hainan Island, then vice governor of Guangdong Province and deputy commander of Guangzhou Military Region.

Important exhibition

20 19 September 26th to 20th119 10 October 2nd, this work was exhibited at China Art Museum in the "Magnificent Picture of Great Course-Art Exhibition Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of People's Republic of China (PRC)" sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of People's Republic of China (PRC).

On July 1 day, 2020, this work was exhibited in "Lofty Faith-Art Exhibition Celebrating the 99th Anniversary of the Founding of China Producers' Party in China Art Museum" in China Art Museum.
