Archaeological Excavation of Yangshao Cultural Site

Since June 2013, cultural relics workers in Hebei Province have conducted rescue archaeological excavations at the Yangshao Cultural Site in Xiaoli Village, Baixiang County, Xingtai, and have made a number of important discoveries.

The Xiaoli ruins area is about 60,000 square meters. It is a cultural relic of the Hougang Phase I of the Yangshao period, about 5,700 to 6,300 years ago.

In Tongguan County, there are two Yangshao cultural sites that have been discovered: one is the Nanzhaizi Yangshao cultural site.

It is located at the intersection of Yuhuatun Creek and Tong River in Nanzhaizi, Wucun Township. It is higher in the south and lower in the north, about 350 meters wide from east to west, and about 1,000 meters long from north to south.

Most of the cultural relics at this site are still well preserved, except for some ash pits that were damaged due to the construction of the Longhai Railway.

An ash layer with a height of 2.5 meters and a length of 30 meters was found, 11 ash pits with a diameter of 3 to 4 meters, and three human skeletons. The unearthed cultural relics include stone axes, stone sickles, stone rings, and red ash

There are pottery rings, the mouth, ears and bottom of red net pendants with sand inside them, the mouths and bottoms of painted pottery bowls, red pottery basins, sand pottery pots, etc., as well as red and painted pottery pieces.

Pottery decorations are diverse, including painting patterns, net patterns, water patterns, rope patterns, orchid patterns and additional pile patterns.

The other place is the Zhangjiawan Yangshao Cultural Site.

It is located on the second-story plateau (called the second-story platform by locals) west of Gecha Road in Zhangjiawan, Gangkang Town. It is about 50 meters wide from east to west and about 100 meters long from north to south.

Two ash pits 2 meters high in the south were found at this site.

There are concentrated grass mud and red-burnt soil in the ash pit. From the eve of the Anti-Japanese War to the present, cultural relics such as pottery urns, earthen jars, ceramic urns, pottery pieces and stones have been unearthed.

In recent years, pottery patterns include painted patterns, painted patterns, orchid patterns, etc.

These two ancient cultural sites are surrounded by mountains and rivers, and the land is fertile. They have superior conditions for human settlement and survival.

In 1980, it was discovered and appraised by the provincial, prefecture and county census cultural relics teams, and the unearthed documents were collected in the county cultural center.

In August 2014, while conducting archaeological exploration in conjunction with the Huayuzun Real Estate Plaza project, a Yangshao cultural site with an area of ??48,227 square meters and a cultural layer about 3 meters thick was discovered.

The newly discovered site is located in Dongcheng District, Xuchang City, near the intersection of Tianbao Road and Weiwu Road.

After preliminary exploration, the specific location is in the western half of the Huayuzun Real Estate Plaza project (the planned west gate), the southern part of Shilimiao Community and the plot south of the community, close to the bend of an ancient river.

It is about 1 to 3 meters deep from the surface, gradually deepens from north to south, and is hidden under the alluvial soil layer.

Based on the analysis of artifact specimens such as Gaza pottery shards and Corded red pottery shards and soil inclusions discovered during the exploration, the site should be a Yangshao cultural site dating back 7,000 to 5,000 years ago, and the accumulation layers after the Yangshao Culture are obvious.
