What are the dialects of Shanghai?
Overall, the dialects of the whole Shanghai area belong to the small Wu Taihu Lake piece of Suzhou-Shanghai-Jia, but they can be further divided into several kinds according to the internal differences.
1. Chongming Dialect Area
This area is located in the northern islands of Chongming, Changxing and Hengsha.
2. Jiading dialect area
This area is distributed in the northern part of the mainland part of Jiading and most of Baoshan.
3. Liantang dialect area
This area is distributed in the southwestern part of Qingpu.
4. Shanghai dialect area
Distributed in and around the urban area of Shanghai, Pudong, and Nanhui.
5. Songjiang Dialect Area
Distributed in Songjiang, Jinshan, Fengxian, Minhang, and most of Qingpu, and parts of Jiading.
