How to choose seedling container?
The containers are made of soft plastics, hard plastics, peat, pulp and straw. Among them, plastic containers are dominant. The characteristics of containers are cylindrical, conical, square and hexagonal. At present, the most commonly used are plastic bags and honeycomb conjoined paper cup containers.
The container specification depends on the seedling tree species and the size of the seedlings. However, in order to reduce the cost, the minimum specifications that can ensure the afforestation effect should be adopted. The plastic bags currently used are generally 8 ~ 20cm high and 5 ~ 12cm in diameter, and there are drainage and air holes around the bags. Small containers are commonly used in temperate regions such as North America and Northern Europe, with a diameter of 2 ~ 3 cm and a height of 9 ~ 20 cm. In tropical and subtropical areas, the container capacity for cultivating large seedlings can reach 100 cm 3.
Because there are many kinds of seedling containers with different shapes, sizes and materials, they can be selected according to different requirements such as tree species, seedling raising period, seedling raising method and seedling size.
