What traditional festivals do Buyi people have?

The traditional festivals of Buyi people include New Year's Day, February 2nd, March 3rd, April 8th, June 6th, having New Year's Eve dinner, July 30th and so on. Besides, Buyi people also celebrate Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and other Han festivals. Buyi is a large minority in southwest China, with Buyi as the national language, and Sino-Tibetan is a branch of Zhuang and Dong languages, which is closely related to Zhuang language and commonly uses Chinese.

On New Year's Day, according to local records, the Buyi people "take November as the beginning of the year". Pingtang and Libo still celebrate the New Year on 1 1 30th, but most areas have included the New Year Festival in the Spring Festival. Every December, every household is busy making wine, making glutinous rice cakes, curing bacon, making blood tofu, or sewing new clothes.

On New Year's Eve, ancestors were provided with rich food and wine, firecrackers were set off, and the whole family stayed up until the rooster crowed. On the first day of the first month, there is a custom that girls compete to carry water home for the first time (called "smart water"), and boys compete to bring pebbles to the land temple with ropes and put them in the barn (meaning "six animals flourish").

During the Chinese New Year, young people are invited to go out "with few waves"; Middle-aged and elderly people congratulate each other on the New Year and have a good drink together. Some places also hold dragon and lion dances, horse races, stone throwing, bronze drums, suona, singing and dancing, basketball and other recreational activities. Generally, after the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first month, we begin to work in the fields.
