Japanese Cool Pastry Nice and Tasty Mizutaki Buns

Mizutaki (water buns) is a traditional Japanese refreshing pastry mainly made of glutinous rice flour, sugar and water, which has a soft, cool and refreshing texture. Mizutaki are beautifully shaped, usually white or light pink in color, and may be decorated with some red and green silk and sesame seeds. In Japan, water buns are often popular as a side dish for summer tea.

The method of making water buns is relatively simple, with the main ingredients being glutinous rice flour, sugar and water. First, mix the glutinous rice flour and sugar, then gradually add the right amount of water and stir into glutinous rice paste. Pour the glutinous rice paste into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat, stirring as it heats, until it becomes thick. Then pour it into the mold and put it into the refrigerator until it solidifies.

When serving, you can cut the water buns into small pieces, garnish them with some red and green threads, sesame seeds, etc., and sprinkle them with some powdered sugar for a sweeter taste. Water steamed buns can be used as summer tea time snacks as well as daily snacks, which are nutritious and tasty.
