Knowledge of Caricature

One of the types of caricature drawings, also known as satire.

The word caricature is derived from the Italian word caricare, meaning exaggeration, which later evolved into the word caricature to refer exclusively to drawings with satirical and comical connotations.

Through exaggeration, distortion, assumption, metaphor, symbolism and other techniques, with humor, fun, witty artistic effect, satire, criticism (or praise) of people and things in real life.

Cartoons have the basic characteristics of being entertaining, thought-provoking, and inspiring.

What are the attributes of comics

Comics are a visual art, and have the same **** as other paintings, but they are not exactly the same as other paintings, and are fundamentally different from other paintings in the sense that they offer an opinion and comment on things, and have a sense of humor.

So irony and humor constitute the most basic attributes of comics, and the art of comics is the art of irony and humor, and the art of reverse thinking.

How to classify comics

In the twenty-first century, comics are very colorful, especially in China, where comics are divided into very detailed categories, such as sentimental comics, lyrical comics, philosophical comics, ink comics, and so on, which are so numerous that the boundaries between them are blurred, and people can't tell them apart.

However, when we analyze these so-called comics carefully, it is not difficult to find out that apart from the slight difference in name and form of these comics, the law of their creation and their spiritual core are basically the same, so this division is unscientific and unthinking.

In fact, while inheriting the tradition of satire and humor, the art of cartooning has given rise to cold humor cartoons and practical cartoons.

Cold humor comics include black humor, absurd humor and avant-garde comics; practical comics include illustration comics, advertisement comics and profit-oriented comics and so on.

In order to understand the classification of comics in detail, I have made a rational and scientific division of the derivation and development of comics in this section, and made a chart for you to better understand the history of the development of comics and the aesthetic value of comic art.

From the chart, it is not difficult to find that the survival of comics in the current stage is the coexistence of three major types of comics: satirical comics, humorous comics and practical comics.

However, as the cultural industry is driven and controlled by the law of commercial profit, the mainstream comics, such as satirical comics and humorous comics, have suffered from the impact of the tide of economic interests and have retreated and shrunk, while the quasi-comics (utility comics) have been infinitely expanded and developed.

This asymmetrical development can not be entirely attributed to the market tendency, the mainstream comic vulgarization is the root of the problem, satirical cartoons have lost the didactic nature of the former fighting; humor painting the expression of decades of unchanged, resulting in people in the appreciation of the mainstream cartoons produce aesthetic fatigue, so the mainstream comic art vacuum, invariably for the utility caricatures to provide a huge market.

And practical comics precisely cater to the mass consumption and rebellious psychology, with rich sensory *** and commercial flavor of the empty can refer to (i.e. meaningless and funny), dissolved the depth of the meaning of the art of comics and artistic charm, so that comics become the accessories of the mass consumer culture and the laughing stock.

When we study and analyze this kind of fast-food comics with a historical point of view and thought, the first thing we focus on is its relationship with consumerism since the 1990s, and fast-food comics symbolize the fate of mainstream comic art in our consumerist era.

There is no absolute stability in any kind of art, and it is constantly undergoing changes of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction in the course of historical development.

The art of cartooning is no exception. We cannot stick to the same forms and techniques of expression, but we have to produce new forms of cartooning to meet people's spiritual needs.

We have to raise the artistic content of comics to an important position, so as to enhance the artistic level of comics.

As we all know, the value of comic art is supported by the aesthetic value, if we lose this support point, the comic is the same as the loss of artistic value, under the influence of today's consumerism, it will be metamorphosed into a common comic without artistic spirit.

And this kind of vulgar comics without aesthetic value, can only steal the concept of the word caricature to waltz through the market, the popularity.
