The content repertoire of the Xi River Drums

West River Drums content is based on folktales, historical popular dramas, popular novels. In the bibliography, there are mainly long stories (Mangzi live), middle stories (Ba Kung Er), short drums (small sections), and book hats (small slap), of which the long and middle stories are sung while talking, and the small sections are only sung but not talked about.

The traditional bibliography of the West River Drums has more than 150 long and short pieces, and more than 370 book caps. The content of most of the war stories through the ages historical dramas folk tales popular fiction myths and fables jokes and so on. Many of these books in varying degrees reflect the thoughts and feelings of the working people's aspirations, plot twists and turns, vivid language, inherited the fine tradition of Chinese folklore. The traditional bibliography is exceptionally rich, with more than 100 long and medium-length drum books, such as Feuding the Gods, Xue Jiagong, Taiyuanfu, Hijacking the Penal Vehicle, Sanquanzhen, and Hujiagong, and hundreds of small segments, such as Xiao Guxian and Lanqiao Hui. Medium and long drum books reflecting modern themes include "Tunnel War" and "Linhai Xueyuan". Reflecting the reality of the revolutionary struggle of the new titles, such as "Plain Guerrillas", "White Hair Girl", "Wolf Tooth Mountain Five Heroes", "Dong Cunrui sacrificed his life to blow up the bunker", "Jinchaji little girl" and so on.

After 1937, a lot of actors and actresses of Xihe drum actively participated in the anti-Japanese salvation work and organized a lot of new repertoire, such as Wang Kuiwu (1891-1947), "Zangang Tragedy", "Rent Reduction and Interest Rate Reduction", and Wang Zunsan, "Defend Wuhan", "Kissing Flesh and Bone", and "The Little Girl of Jincha-Hebei".
