The school is a model school for high school curriculum reform in Beijing, an experimental school for the Beijing Sino-British Development Program, and a model general high school in Haidian District.
The predecessor of the school was Xiangshan Salesian College, which was founded by Mr. Xiong Xiling in October 1920 in Jingyi Park, Xiangshan. In 1954, Xiangshan Salesian College was moved to a new school building in Baiduizi, Fuwai, which was subordinated to the Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs; the middle school department was added in December 1967, and the Beijing Municipal Lixin Middle School was founded, which was subordinated to the Bureau of Education of Haidian District. Beijing Lixin Middle School merged with Ganjiakou Third Primary School (Xinsheng Elementary School) and Xinsheng Kindergarten in January 1973, and was named Beijing Lixin School; in May 2003, the Ganjiakou Elementary School was merged into Beijing Lixin School. In May 2003, Ganjiakou Primary School was merged into the primary section of Beijing Lixin School; in September 2015, the school was renamed Beijing Experimental School (Haidian).
As of September 2020, the school has two locations, covers an area of more than 60,000 square meters, and has 94 classes (including 9 kindergartens, 38 elementary schools, 26 junior high schools, and 21 senior high schools), 3,455 students, and 443 teaching staff.
A public middle school within Beijing, Beijing Haidian Experimental Middle School was formed by the merger of the former Fucheng Road Middle School (near the Aerospace Bridge) and 122 Middle School near Chedaogou. in 2000, it cooperated with Beijing No. 8 Middle School to run the school.
