Is Wushu an event of Beijing Olympic Games?
The medals of Wushu competition in 2008 Olympic Games will be different from those of other 28 official Olympic events. The specific events of Wushu competition and the scheduled number of medals are still under planning. The reporter learned from the press conference of the 2nd World Traditional Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, China yesterday morning.
Wang Xiaolin, director of the National Wushu Sports Management Center, reiterated the decision of the International Olympic Committee to approve Wushu as a special event of the 2008 Olympic Games. He said: "Wushu is neither an official event of the Olympic Games nor a performance event." According to the regulations of Wang Xiaolin, any competition held by the host city of the Olympic Games during the Olympic Games must be approved by the International Olympic Committee. After China's application, the Wushu competition has been approved by the International Olympic Committee, and it can be held during the 2008 Olympic Games, named as the Beijing Olympic Wushu Competition.
