Cormorant fishing is an ancient skill passed down by the working people of the Han nationality for thousands of years. This skill is also passed down from generation to generation among the fishermen in Longhu Mountain, a famous scenic spot in Jiangxi Province.

A small boat appears in the clear water of Danshan Mountain in Longhu Mountain. The vigorous osprey, swift fish, dark fishermen, green river water and mountains on both sides form a perfect and moving harmonious picture.

Cormorant fishing in Longhu Mountain has its own unique historical heritage. This work requires courage, skill, and the close cooperation between people and eagles. It is a symbol of the wildness, strength and tradition of Longhu Mountain.

There are records of domesticating cormorants for fishing in ancient my country. The earliest records can be traced back to the Qin and Han Dynasties. Du Fu also wrote a poem, "Every family raises black ghosts and eats yellow croaker every meal." The "black ghost" mentioned in it refers to cormorants. Today, this primitive fishing method is also prohibited.

Morphological Characteristics of Cormorants Common cormorants have black head, neck and crown feathers in summer, with purple-green metallic luster, mixed with white silky thin feathers; black upper body; copper-brown shoulder, back and wing coverts with metallic luster;

The feather edges are dark copper blue; the tail is round, with 14 tail feathers, gray-black, and the base of the feather shaft is gray-white; the primary flight feathers are dark brown, the secondary and tertiary flight feathers are gray-brown, with green metallic luster; cheeks, chin and upper throat

The rest of the lower body is blue-black with metallic luster, and there is a white patch on the lower flank. The winter feathers are like summer feathers, but there are no white filamentous feathers on the head and neck, and there are no white spots on the two flanks.

During the reproductive period, there is a triangular white spot on each side of the waist, white silky feathers on the head and upper neck, and an inconspicuous crest on the back of the head.
