How do Dai traditional houses build houses?

The traditional folk houses of the Dai nationality in the south and southwest of Yunnan are "trunk columns" developed by nesting wood and bamboo structures. Most Dai villages are near the water, streams, banks of rivers and lakes and marshes in the plain.

Where there are green trees and bamboos, there are a series of Dai bamboo buildings. The building is divided into two floors, the roof is mostly herringbone, covered with bark, thatch or pottery tile. People live upstairs, and there is no shelter downstairs. It is used for raising livestock or placing furniture.

Later, mangshi, Lianghe and other places in Dehong area were influenced by the Han nationality and changed to thatched earth walls or tile houses. The Dai people in Xishuangbanna have long been under the feudal Lord system economy, and their trunk buildings are less influenced by the Han nationality. Unlike the buildings in China, the layout is not symmetrical and rigorous, and the rooms are arranged according to the requirements of life. The layout is free and lively, and changes according to the nature of the room.
