What are the traditional festivals of Dong nationality?
Fireworks Festival is a grand festival for Dong people, which is held in different places on different dates, including the third day of the first lunar month, the second day of the second lunar month and the 26th October. The so-called fireworks is a kind of straight-bore iron gun, powered by gunpowder. A hoop wrapped in red and green thread, symbolizing happiness, soared into the sky. When it fell, people rushed forward to grab it. It is said that whoever grabs the hoop (fireworks) will get happiness and well-being in this year, and will be rewarded with wine and meat. Every festival, Dong men and women should dress up for the meeting. Besides fireworks, there are Dong songs, colorful tunes, lusheng and ball games.
Bridging joint
According to legend, Gong Zu, the ancestor of the Dong nationality, gave birth to his son and grandson because of this bridge, which happened on February 2nd. To commemorate this day, the Dong people designated this day as the Bridge Festival.
Girls' Day
The eighth day of the fourth lunar month is a festival for Dong women in Hunan, Guizhou, Guangxi and other places. According to legend, this custom comes from the Yang family of the Dong nationality. On this day of the festival, all the married girls will go back to their parents' homes with their sisters to make black rice and black rice cakes, sing and laugh, and celebrate the festival. After the festival, these married girls will bring some rice cakes back to their parents-in-law's house and distribute them to relatives and friends to enjoy the delicious food of the festival.
Wedding anniversary
Every year, the first day of the tenth lunar month is the "wedding day" of the Dong people, and dozens of young couples often get married on this day, which is today's "collective wedding". This custom is still preserved in Xiaoguang, Hua 'ao and other places in Jianhe County, Guizhou Province.
