Su Shi (January 8, 1037 - August 24, 1101), Zizhan, also known as Wazhong, known as Dongpo Jushi, a native of Meishan, Meizhou (present-day Meishan City, Sichuan Province), was a great man of literature of the Northern Song Dynasty, one of the members of the Three Su family, and one of the Eight Great Poets of the Tang and Song dynasties. His poetry, lyrics, fugue, prose, are highly accomplished, and good calligraphy and painting, is a rare Chinese literature and art history of all-round talent, but also China's thousands of years of history is recognized as one of the most outstanding literary and artistic attainments. His prose and Ouyang Xiu are known as Ou Su; his poetry and Huang Tingjian are known as Su Huang, and Lu You are known as Su Lu; his lyrics and Xin Qiji are known as Su Xin; and his paintings created the Huzhou School of Painting. There are more than 3900 poems in existence, and his representative works include "Song of Water", "Nian Nujiao", "Red Cliff" and "Red Cliff Fu".
