At the 20 10 China (Shangli) International Fireworks and Firecrackers Trade Fair held on April10, the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives awarded Shangli County, Jiangxi Province with the plaque of "Hometown of Fireworks and Firecrackers in China".
Shangli, Jiangxi is the birthplace of firecrackers in China. Li Yi, known as the "ancestor of firecrackers" in Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty, was born in Jinshan Town, Shangli, which has been producing fireworks for over 300 years. By the end of 20 10, the booming fireworks and firecrackers industry had driven160,000 people to obtain employment, accounting for a quarter of the population of Shangli County, which became an important support to solve the employment of local rural surplus labor and increase farmers' income.
