Measures for the administration of medical wastes
The Measures for the Administration of Medical Wastes is an administrative regulation for the classification, disposal and management of medical wastes generated by medical institutions in order to protect the environment and ensure public health. The method clarifies the definition and classification of medical waste, including conventional medical waste, infectious medical waste, pharmaceutical waste and radioactive medical waste. Medical institutions should store, collect, transport and dispose according to different types. The Measures stipulate that medical institutions should establish a medical waste management system, clarify the responsibilities of medical waste generation, collection, transportation, disposal and management, and strengthen education and training for employees. At the same time, medical institutions should classify medical wastes and take effective measures to prevent wastes from polluting the environment and endangering human health. The transportation of medical waste shall conform to the relevant provisions of the state and take necessary protective measures. For the treatment of infectious medical waste, the Measures stipulate that harmless treatment must be adopted for disposal. If conventional medical waste does not contain infectious substances, it can be treated by incineration, landfill and chemical treatment. The treatment of pharmaceutical waste and radioactive medical waste shall be carried out in accordance with relevant regulations.
How to transport the medical wastes produced by medical institutions safely? The transportation of medical wastes shall comply with the relevant provisions of the state, including ensuring that wastes are not leaked, dispersed or damaged during transportation, and that transport vehicles and equipment are safe, and strengthening supervision and management.

Article 6 of the Measures for the Administration of Medical Wastes in People's Republic of China (PRC) establishes a classified management system for medical wastes, defines the responsibilities for the generation, collection, transportation, disposal and management of medical wastes, and formulates and organizes the implementation of standardized measures for the classification, storage, collection, transportation and disposal of medical wastes.
