Analysis of Henan Zhuxianzhen woodblock prints with elaborate production processes, exaggerated shapes, bold lines and colorful artistic features, was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006.In November 2019, the woodblock prints were selected to the list of national intangible cultural heritage representative project protection units.

The production and use areas and the protection and inheritance of woodblock prints

There are dozens of production areas for woodblock prints of all sizes, among which the famous ones are: Liangping, Chongqing; Yangliuqing, Tianjin; Wuqiang, Hebei; Weifang, Shandong; Taohuayu, Suzhou; Zhuxianzhen, Henan; and Mianzhu, Sichuan, and other places. During the years of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, the area of use of New Year's Paintings covered all parts of the country, including Taiwan, except Tibet.

As of October 2019, 18 woodblock print projects have been selected for the national intangible cultural heritage project list, 19 woodblock print protection units and 20 national intangible cultural heritage representative inheritors have been recognized, and systematic non-heritage recording work has been carried out on 12 of them.Over the past 10 years, the central government has invested more than 40 million yuan for woodblock print protection and inheritance.
