The Development of English Standard Pronunciation in China
This pronunciation, which came to be known as RP, is still recognized and adopted by the English syllabus of China's Ministry of Education. After the founding of the People's Republic of China and up to the early 1980s, this phonetic symbol and pronunciation style was always regarded as the standard in China's English teaching examinations and was widely used without question. The phonetics tapes recorded by Prof. Zhang Guanlin and the audio tape "Xu Guozhang's English" recorded by Prof. Gan Shaowan were once the models for millions of English learners to follow. However, since the introduction of TOEFL into China, the traditional English pronunciation has become tasteless, and there are no more rules and regulations. For example, most primary and secondary school textbooks are annotated according to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), but textbook tapes sound American from time to time; graduates of teacher training colleges and universities have never seen a "phonogram"; and many people boast of being advocates of the American sound when they have only the American "R" sound on their lips. Sadly, it is because of these, so that our students are at a loss, not interested, greatly affecting the enthusiasm of English learning, so that affects the students to the teacher's respect.
Language is a kind of art, to a certain level, down on paper, can be called literary art; practiced to a certain extent, can be called the art of recitation. Phonetics is an integral part of linguistics. The ratio of English pronunciation to American pronunciation should be the ratio of the American voice to the popular voice in vocal music. The American voice makes the singer, while the commonplace makes the singer.
Many teachers emphasize that the breakthrough in English learning lies in listening. The breakthrough in listening is reading aloud. So where is the breakthrough in reading aloud? "The breakthrough in reading aloud is in intonation, the breakthrough in intonation is in phonetics, and the breakthrough in phonetics is in the International Phonetic Alphabet." Grammar and vocabulary can be learned without a teacher, while tone of voice must be imitated. Who should prevail in Chinese pronunciation? Launch the CCTV announcer, no one will object. In English, by analogy, the BBC announcer is the relative standard, but the BBC is beyond the reach of many of us. 1970s Linguaphone, 1980s Follow M e, and the still popular New Concept English are excellent models of imitation for us to use. New Concept English, which is still popular today, are all excellent models for us to use as imitations. In particular, New Concept English has been popular around the world for more than 20 years, and is the best teacher (preferably the old version) we can have at our fingertips. These voice intonation model is characterized by: monotone, long and short, before and after the upper and lower, in place; diphthongs, natural full, as long as long vowels; consonants, standardized and clear, accented, rhythmic, continuous reading, clear and bright natural, beautiful and smooth tunes, which can make people get an aesthetic enjoyment. The oral interview of the college entrance examination of foreign language majors and the oral interview of the foreign enterprise, the applicant for the contest, first of all, these basic skills, in these key moments of collision with fate, not the slightest casual and fluke.
