Japanese island songs
Shima songs are a style, a type of singing,
which is the application of folk singing from the Okinawan side of Japan to a song.
The songs are often accompanied by a traditional Japanese instrument, the shamisen.
Shima songs are characterized by their ability to change between true and false notes.
Shima songs are very distinctive, and it's easy to tell when you've heard one or two of them.
Nakahyosuke's songs are all sung using the island song style, so he is an island song singer.
There are quite a few Japanese singers in this style, such as Satomi Natsukawa, Motochitose, Shirokaikai, etc.
By the way Jay Chou's "Sea of Flowers" is sung in this style.
