How to calculate rainfall

Rainfall precipitation is calculated as follows:

Rainfall is generally measured by rain gauge or rain gauge, is measured by measuring the depth of water layer in millimeters at a certain point or a unit of area that landed on the ground within a certain period of time, and is often available in years, months, days, 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours or even 1 hour of precipitation.

The amount of rainfall is measured in millimeters, which can visually represent how much rain has fallen. What is usually referred to as light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain, torrential rain, etc., is usually measured in terms of daily rainfall.

In weather forecasting, there are technical terms such as light rain, moderate rain and heavy rain, where light rain is defined as no more than 10 millimeters of rainfall in a 24-hour period, moderate rain is defined as 10 to 24.9 millimeters of rainfall in a 24-hour period, and heavy rain is defined as more than 50 millimeters of rainfall in a 24-hour period.

Precipitation Analysis

Precipitation is measured by weather stations or other meteorological equipment. Weather stations usually count precipitation data on different time scales such as hourly, daily, monthly, or yearly for analysis and application.

In the study of climate and ecosystem change, precipitation data is very important to help us understand the status of water resources, the distribution of vegetation, and the stability of ecosystems in a particular area.

Classification of the intensity of precipitation

1, light rain refers to the amount of rainfall in a 24-hour period of 0.1-10.0 millimeters or less; (raindrops are clearly visible, there is no floating phenomenon; down to the ground does not splash in all directions; depressions of water is very slow to accumulate; the sound of the rain on the roof of the house is faint, and there are only drips on the eaves of the house).

2. Light to moderate rain means rainfall of 5.0-17.0 millimeters in 24 hours.

3. Medium rain refers to rainfall of 10.1-25.0 millimeters in 24 hours; (rain falling like a line, raindrops not easy to distinguish; falling on the hard ground in all directions; depressions accumulate water faster; roofs have the sound of rustling rain).

4. Moderate to heavy rain means rainfall of 17.1-38.0 millimeters in 24 hours.

5. Heavy rain refers to rainfall of 25.1-50.0 millimeters in a 24-hour period; (rain falls like a downpour, blurring into sheets; water accumulates in depressions very quickly; roofs have the sound of rushing rain)

6. Heavy to heavy rain refers to rainfall of 38.1-75.0 millimeters in a 24-hour period.
