What are the characteristics of stream-of-consciousness novels?

The method of stream of consciousness is not a purely technical and formal problem, but an understanding and explanation of people's consciousness and psychology. It comes from the concept of man in modern psychology and is used to express this concept.

In stream-of-consciousness novels, the arrangement of stories and the connection of plots are generally not limited by time, space, logic or causality, but often show the jump and change of time and space, and there is a lack of close logical connection between time and place between two scenes. Time often crosses or overlaps in the past, present and future. This kind of novel often centers on an event that was happening at that time. Through triggering, people's conscious activities are constantly diverging and recovering in all directions, and after repeated cycles, a flourishing three-dimensional structure is formed. There is no uniform standard for stream-of-consciousness novels, and their practical applications are also different. In addition, some writers of various modern literary schools (such as the New Fiction School and the Theatre of the Absurd) use the technique of stream of consciousness to varying degrees, so the performance of this technique is more complicated and changeable, and it is impossible to determine certain principles and models for it. The famous works of stream of consciousness are Ulysses by Joyce (1922) and Memories of Past Years by Proust (19 13- 1927).
