Agriculture, is a sector of social production based on the production of plant, animal and microbial products. Agriculture in the broad sense includes cultivation, forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries and sideline industries. Agriculture in the narrow sense refers to plantation .

The objects of agricultural production are living animals, plants and microorganisms. Agricultural production has five major characteristics: territoriality, seasonality, continuity, comprehensiveness, and commodity.

China's agriculture consists of planting, forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries and secondary industries. They are closely linked, interdependent and mutually reinforcing.

Agricultural development has gone through three stages: primitive agriculture, traditional agriculture and modern agriculture. Now, our country is in transition from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture.

China's modernization of agriculture is the process of transforming traditional agriculture into modern agriculture. The main content is: to realize the modernization of agricultural production means, improve the level of material and technical equipment in agriculture; to realize the modernization of agricultural technology, improve the level of science and technology in agriculture; to realize the modernization of agricultural production management, improve the level of management of agriculture.

Characteristics of China's agricultural modernization: scientific production technology; mechanization and automation of the means of production; socialization of production; management modernization.

China's agricultural modernization model is to develop ecological agriculture. Eco-agriculture, is the ecological economic system principles as a guide, the establishment of a comprehensive agricultural production system that takes into account the resources, environment, efficiency and effectiveness.
