How to carry forward traditional Chinese culture
Entering the 21st century, China, both economically and culturally, has gradually integrated with the world, and the world is eager to learn about China, and China needs to introduce its excellent culture to the world. In the early 1990s, I edited the publication of "Shenzhou Culture Integration Series", which was widely praised by readers and had a good impact. However, due to the limitations of various conditions at that time, the overall publication quality of the series appeared to be a bit rough and simple; therefore, in recent years, with the strong advocacy and assistance of the people concerned, we decided to publish this series again. This time, we have made a big change in both the design and the arrangement of the content, and reappeared in the form of colorful illustrated text and the series of "Shenzhou Cultural Atlas Integration", and the overall level has been greatly improved. The slogan of promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture and the spirit of patriotism, which was put forward by the people concerned more than a decade ago, has recently been echoed once again on the land of China, and even overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese have also praised it and responded to it enthusiastically, which proves that this slogan has been brought to the heart of the people and that it is entirely correct and timely. According to past experience, all correct slogans must be put into action before they can be considered effective. Therefore, in the early 1990s, our colleagues in the Chinese culture academy and the Oriental Film and Television Group general manager Li Shengquan and other comrades, patriotic unwillingness to descendants, but also want to do their own modest, for this magnificent event to add bricks and mortar, after a few brewing consultations, initiated a large series of editing and publication of the series of books of the "Shenzhou Culture Integration," with this idea and expectations, we began to organize the manuscripts of the activities. In a relatively short period of time, we invited a number of domestic scholars with expertise in the old, middle-aged and young scholars to undertake the task of writing the books. Although many scholars were very busy with their work, once they heard the purpose of our initiative, they all agreed to it. In order to ensure the quality of the books, we have set up a strict review system. No one has any "privileges". Only in this way can we truly promote the excellent culture left behind by our ancestors. We can tell our readers and viewers this with peace of mind. The development of culture, is in the mutual exchange of different cultures, the Chinese people to Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism as the main body of traditional culture, has been blended into a variety of nomadic peoples and southern barbarians, northern Dili, Eastern Barbarians, Western Rong heterogeneous culture, and draw on Buddhism and other Indian culture condensed. Since the Opium War in 1840, Western culture has been pouring into China like a tidal wave, and this "thirty years of the River West" has also been characterized by cultural exchanges based on the "Eastward Progression of Western Learning". Entering the 21st century, the traditional culture of the Chinese nation has experienced the destruction and tribulation after the decline and resurgence, this "thirty years of River East", cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries will rise "East learns from the West," the trend of gradual change. Western culture's "egocentrism" and "anthropocentrism" by nature's vengeance, the peak of prosperity and decline, must draw vitality from the Eastern culture. Oriental culture is represented by the traditional culture of the Chinese nation, whose ideological contents are numerous and varied, but all of them are concentrated on the word "Tao". The spreading of Chinese culture to the west will surely bring about world peace and lead to the commonwealth of "the world for the common good". The unification of the Chinese nation will be accomplished with traditional culture as the link. China's "peaceful rise" in the east of the world must be the first revival of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. Chinese traditional culture is an important element of our comprehensive national strength, is the lifeline of the Chinese nation in China, which is the basic concept of our re-launch of the publication of the "Atlas of Chinese Culture". Although the title of our book series is "Shenzhou", the horizon of our consideration is by no means limited to Shenzhou. In recent years, I have often considered issues related to culture. If there is one characteristic of my consideration, it is that I am not limited to the region of Shenzhou, nor to the current era. I have in my collection a seal engraved by Chen Mansheng, a master of the Zhejiang School in the Qing Dynasty, which reads, "5,000 years up and down, 100,000 miles across", which is perfectly in line with my spirit. I am not an expert in cultural issues, and I do not pretend to be. However, I have seen some things, thought of some things, I do not want to be presumptuous, nor do I want to be selfish, so I wrote some short articles, and made several speeches in different symposiums. The response was mostly positive. Even some foreign scholars were no exception. This, of course, strengthened my confidence in further exploration. In my opinion, when we talked about Chinese culture in the past, we tended to talk about China only in terms of China, only in terms of China, only in terms of China in front of us. The result of doing so can only be like a blind man feeling an elephant, unable to feel the whole picture and the truth. After years of reflection, I believe that, from the perspective of the entire history of mankind, the people of the world*** have created four major cultural systems. The so-called "big" refers to cultural systems that have a long history, have a wide influence, and still exist today. Measured against this standard, I have found only four: China, India, Islam, Europe and America. The first three of these belong to the Eastern cultural category, and the fourth belongs to the West. The two systems, East and West, have similarities and differences, and the differences are more prominent. According to my personal opinion, the key lies in the way of thinking: Eastern synthesis, Western analysis. The so-called "analyze", a little more scientific is to break down the whole of things into many parts, more and more detailed. This has its advantages: a more in-depth look at the nature of things. But also has its disadvantages: often only see the trees, not see the forest. The so-called "synthesis" is to link the various parts of the thing, so that it becomes a unified whole, emphasizing the universal connection of things, both see the trees, but also see the forest. The point of universal connection is very important, and it is fully in line with materialistic dialectics. As far as I can see, this is the fundamental difference between Eastern and Western cultures. Chinese culture is an important part of Eastern culture. To understand Chinese culture, one must first understand Eastern culture; and to understand Eastern culture, one must first understand Chinese culture. Oriental culture and Chinese culture, understanding must be simultaneous and progressive, cross-referenced, compared with each other, initially coarse, and then gradually fine, spiraling upward, and ultimately open-minded. I would like to take an example from medicine first. As we all know, Western medicine and Chinese medicine are completely different. The historical background of the two is completely different, and the development process is also completely different, so diagnosis, prescription, medicinal herbs, and so on, are all different. The most obvious difference is well-known: Western medicine often "treats the head when there is a headache, and treats the foot when there is a footache", while Chinese medicine often treats the head when there is a footache, for example, this is the case with acupuncture points. Improve to the way of thinking, Chinese medicine than Western medicine, pay more attention to the universal connection, pay attention to the overall concept. Let's take language and writing as an example. Western Indo-European languages, especially some of the oldest such as Vedic and Sanskrit, etc., morphology is exceptionally complex, just look at a word, you can determine its meaning. The Chinese language has no morphological changes, just look at a single word, you dare not determine its meaning, you must put it in a phrase or sentence, its meaning can be determined. Chinese people, especially Han Chinese, who are used to using this language, are subconsciously accustomed to the universal connection and the concept of the whole. Take painting as another example, China and the West are also different. Many scholars, such as Mr. Shen Xiaolong, believe that Western painting is "focal perspective" and Chinese painting is "scattered perspective". If you look at a Chinese landscape painting, you can walk step by step, face to face, "walking within the scene", without a fixed focus. Shen Xiaolong also cited Joseph Lee and Pligotzin's opinion that the Han Chinese have an organic and holistic way of thinking. The characteristics of Chinese culture can be seen in the above few simple examples. In a nutshell, this characteristic can be summarized as the concepts of universal connection and wholeness. From a "scientistic" point of view, this is a bit vague, but this "vagueness" is by no means what is usually called "unclear", but has a more strictly scientific meaning. It emphasizes the universal connection. It emphasizes universal connection. This is completely consistent with what I said above about the Eastern culture's way of thinking, which is "synthesis". This so-called general preface of mine only represents my personal views, and I have no intention of imposing them on others. A hundred schools of thought contend, I am just a family. However, I am very firm on one point, that is, when looking at Chinese culture, it must be placed within the framework of Oriental culture, and within the larger framework of world culture, in order to see it clearly. If we can't liberalize our vision in terms of time and space, and are confined to our accumulated habits, we will not be able to recognize our motherland's excellent culture clearly in any case. It is the sacred duty of each and every one of our Chinese sons and daughters to promote Chinese culture and patriotism. Should we learn from India and other countries? To learn, but the excellent culture of our own people to learn! Otherwise, there will be no roots! This is also when the father of the Indian nation Gandhi to India's young people's wisdom, today I also brought to the motherland of the young generation of yoga instructors, but also hope that these friends in the study of the current popular yoga at the same time, but also learn to absorb the excellent culture of our ancestors! This will help your career! Thank you for reading. And I pray that together to promote the excellent culture of the motherland!
