What is the old tradition?

It's late every year, Mid-Autumn Festival in Wan Li. Are you tired from running around or on your way home? No matter where you are at the ends of the earth, on August 15, which symbolizes family reunion, you should always remember what your ancestors said and eat "1 wine, 2 cakes and 3 fruits". Maybe you'll say you still believe it when it's all over. I think as descendants of the Chinese people, whether facing the loess and facing the sky, or facing nine to five, what they expect is family reunion, family safety and health. Times are changing, only houses and roads have changed, but what remains unchanged is the heart that cares about family and deep homesickness.

I remember when I was a child, a few days before the Mid-Autumn Festival, vendors in the village would carry the burden to sell things, and my mother would exchange eggs, pig bones and old soles for some moon cakes. Moon cakes won't be given to us right away when we take them home. They will be locked in a small cupboard and will not be taken out for everyone to eat until dinner on the evening of August 15. Give it to the elders first, and then to the younger generation.

On the day before the Mid-Autumn Festival, my mother will catch some chickens and bring them to town for sale, then buy some osmanthus wine and Osmanthus Jelly, and then pick grapes, dates and pomegranates in the cupboard when she gets home (there are not many kinds when picking them early). On the morning of August 15, my mother will put these things together with chicken, duck and fish to worship our ancestors, and it will not be our turn to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival until our ancestors have finished eating. For decades, every Mid-Autumn Festival, we always "eat osmanthus wine, moon cakes, Osmanthus Jelly, grapes, red dates and pomegranates". Even if there are too many snacks to mention now, these will not fall in the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Osmanthus fragrans wine is made of Jingui in full bloom in autumn and aged with rice wine. It is golden in color, fragrant, sweet and sour. On the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, move a small table in the yard, smell osmanthus, eat some Osmanthus Jelly, grapes and so on. Then raise a glass to drink with relatives, and the family is warm and sweet. Isn't this what we expect of life in Tao Yuanming's Peach Blossom Garden?

Osmanthus Jelly has the meaning of "expensive cake". I hope my family will be promoted step by step and get better and better. Osmanthus Jelly has a history of more than 300 years in China. It is a cake made of glutinous rice flour, sugar and osmanthus. Uniform thickness, clear yellow and white, no spots and no impurities. The taste is moist, soft, delicate, sweet and delicious, with a strong osmanthus fragrance.

On the night of reunion, I put aside all my worries and worries, ate Osmanthus Jelly with my family, drank osmanthus wine and talked about my parents' short life. Life is simple and full.

As we all know, moon cakes are the traditional food of every household in Mid-Autumn Festival. This is an ancient sacrifice to the moon god, and now it symbolizes a happy reunion. Nowadays, people still like to use it to worship and give gifts to relatives and friends, and its status is irreplaceable.

There is a tradition in our hometown that we can't share moon cakes, just like pears. When you buy moon cakes, you usually buy small ones instead of big ones.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, a large number of grapes are on the market, and sour and sweet grapes are favored by people. You can eat it directly, make it into wine, make it into jelly and so on. Eating grapes in the Mid-Autumn Festival has many meanings, for example, it means that people are prosperous. The older generation thinks it is good to have a full house of children and grandchildren. There are many small grapes in a bunch of grapes, and many children are blessed. In addition, it also has the implication that the more the better, and the more fruits the better. I hope that the population will be prosperous and there will be many good things.

Autumn is a fruitful season, and pomegranate has quietly entered people's fruit bowls. Bright color, sweet and sour and juicy, can be eaten directly, made into juice, made into pomegranate wine. In the traditional culture of China, pomegranate means auspiciousness and good luck. Giving it to married couples means having more children. In addition, pomegranate is bright in color and has the meaning of prosperity. People want their family life and career to flourish by going up a flight of stairs, so if someone gives you pomegranates on the Mid-Autumn Festival, remember to say thank you.

In the autumn season, the dates are ripe and hung on the trees one by one, which is very cute. Jujube is eaten in Mid-Autumn Festival, because it is ripe in this season and has high nutritional value. Another reason is that jujube is homophonic "early", which means to have children early. The ripe jujube itself is red, which means it is booming. Life is thriving and love is thriving, which is what the elders are happy to see, and it is also their blessing and expectation for the younger generation.
