The progressive significance of uss enterprises

The US Navy originally planned to build six enterprise-class aircraft carriers. However, due to the immature nuclear power technology at that time, the core system was expensive and its cost exceeded expectations. The military was forced to cancel the remaining orders and build a traditional Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier to replace the vacancy. Until the Nimitz class was developed, the cost of nuclear power system was reduced and put into practical use, and 10 ships of the same class were built one after another. Under such a development background, the enterprise has unexpectedly become an isolated ship class. In addition, "Enterprise" also installed an unbudgeted RIM-2 missile, which was later upgraded to a dense array near defense system and two RIM-7 auk missile launchers. In the upgrade in 2000, the forward dense array proximity defense system was replaced by two RIM- 1 16 rolling missiles.

This ship is the only ship with 8 nuclear reactors in the US Navy, and it is a simplified structure. In the original A2W design, the system reserved space for installing traditional power boilers, but it was not realized. Enterprise is also the only aircraft carrier equipped with four rudders. Other US aircraft carriers have only two rudders. In addition, the Enterprise also has a rare high-speed hull design similar to a cruiser.

In addition to the revolutionary use of nuclear power for propulsion for the first time, Enterprise was equipped with the most advanced phased array radar technology at that time: phased array radar can track more air targets than traditional rotating radar. In order to cooperate with phased array radar, Enterprise has a unique square bridge, which will be the keynote of the design of new aircraft carrier bridge in the future.
