Historical and Cultural Heritage of Banan District

Banan district, with beautiful mountains and rivers, was formerly a famous city in Baxian county and has a long history of more than 3000 years. The ancient Ba culture is deeply accumulated in this land, and it is an important birthplace of Ba-Yu culture, which has nurtured historical and cultural celebrities such as revolutionary soldier Zou Rong, revolutionary martyr Yang Cangbai and the first female ambassador of New China Ding. Now the total area is 1827 square kilometers, with a total population of 867,000. In the long history, the industrious, brave and wise people of Banan have lived endlessly in this magical and rich land, not only creating rich precious and colorful material and cultural heritages such as ancient towns, Peng's former residence, Yang Cangbai's former residence, ancient tombs and modern representative buildings, but also cultivating a large number of folk music, stories and legends, myths, songs, funerals and handicrafts handed down from generation to generation. The district government has always attached great importance to the protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of excellent traditional culture, and has done a lot of work and achieved remarkable results. Since the 1980s, three collections of Chinese folk literature (Chongqing Eight Immortals Volume) have been collected. The initial survey of cultural relics has also made gratifying achievements, and four municipal-level cultural relics protection units and 40 district-level cultural relics protection points have been established. Since the early 1990s, the Municipal Bureau of Culture has successively named "Hometown of Folk Songs", "Hometown of Folk Literature", "Hometown of Folk Percussion" and "Hometown of Sichuan Opera", one of the top ten folk arts in Bashu.

In the "hometown of folk songs and dances", 80 people were named as folk storytellers, folk singers and folk musicians respectively. Solitaire folk percussion and Mudong folk songs have also been rated as the Top Ten Quyi in Bayu and "Excellent Quyi" in Chongqing. Shengfeng Ancient Town was awarded the title of "Famous Historical and Cultural Town of China" by the Ministry of Construction and the Cultural Relics Bureau. Jielong Town (folk percussion), Mudong Town (folk songs) and Huaxi Town (singing and dancing) were named "Hometown of Folk Culture and Art in China" by the Ministry of Culture. Solitaire folk percussion and Mudong folk songs were listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list by the State Council, and seven items, such as Solitaire Nuo Opera, Mudong Dragon Boat, Ba cultural legend, Jiangjia Dragon Dance custom and Banan tea-making skills, were named as Chongqing intangible cultural heritage protection list by the municipal government. There are 2 representative inheritors of national projects and 9 representative inheritors of municipal projects/kloc-0.
