Horseshoe Temple Scenic Area is located at the foot of Songshan Mountain, Horseshoe Tibetan Township, Sunan County, 65 kilometers away from Zhangye City, with a scenic area of 125.06 square kilometers. Horseshoe Temple Scenic Area is a national nature reserve, a national key cultural relic protection unit, a national AAAA-level tourist area and a provincial-level scenic spot integrating natural scenery, human landscape, ethnic customs and Buddhist culture. Horseshoe Temple is a famous Buddhist resort in Hexi Corridor in history. The grottoes were dug in the cool period of the Sixteen Kingdoms, about 1600 years ago. It consists of seven units: Matinan Temple, Matibei Temple, Thousand Buddha Cave, Upper, Middle and Lower Guanyin Cave and Jinta Temple.
