Calligraphers in the Eastern Han Dynasty can be divided into two categories: one is calligraphers in the Han Dynasty, represented by Cai Yong. One is cursive writers, represented by Du Du, Cui Yuan and Zhang Zhi, and later called "Cao Sheng". Both of them had a profound influence on later generations.

Wang Xizhi, a calligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, was born in Linyi. Minister and calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, son of Yin in Danyang, son-in-law of Jane, known as "Book Sage".

Wang Xizhi became an official with his own background. He served as a card shark, Jiangzhou secretariat and Huiji satrap, and later moved to the right army as a general, known as "Wang Youjun". Yonghe nine years, the organization Lanting Ji Ya. His Preface to Lanting has become "the best running script in the world".

Wang Xizhi is good at following the laws of calligraphy, cursive script and regular script, studying the form, imitating the form with heart, learning from others' strengths, preparing the form, melting in one furnace, getting rid of the style of Han and Wei dynasties, and becoming a family of his own, which has far-reaching influence. The style is peaceful and natural, the brushwork is euphemistic and subtle, and it is beautiful.

Yan Zhenqing was a famous minister in the Tang Dynasty, with clear words, envy and nickname Fang Ying. He was born in Wanzhao, Jingzhao, with Yan Shigu V, a calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, as his eldest grandson and Gao Yanqing as his younger brother.

Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy is exquisite and good at it. Chu Suiliang, a beginner, studied under Zhang Xu and got his brushwork. Its regular script is dignified and majestic, and its running script is vigorous and powerful, which has created a "Yan style" regular script and has a great influence on later generations.

Yan Zhenqing, Zhao Mengfu, Liu Gongquan and Ou Yangxun are also called "four masters of regular script". Together with Liu Gongquan, they are called "Yan Liu" and "Yangu".
