Why is Li Ao in jail?
In an interview with Li Ao, CCTV's Oriental Time and Space said, "1972, Li Ao was sentenced by the Taiwan Province provincial authorities for' rebellion' 10, 1976 was pardoned. 198 10 was arrested and imprisoned again for criticizing the Taiwan Province provincial authorities. " A popular article on many print media and websites entitled "Who is better if Li Ao dares" said: "Li Ao lives in Taipei and overlooks the world. Although he was imprisoned several times, he was defeated and fought many times, and the Vietnam War became more and more brave. A knife cuts blood, and blood seals the throat. On the other hand, people who are scolded are afraid when they listen. During the reign of Chiang and his son in Taiwan Province Province, the way to deal with Li Ao was simple and effective-put him in prison. Li Ao went to prison three times and spent more than 20 years. " Yinchuan Evening News, a subsidiary of the Propaganda Department of Yinchuan Municipal Committee, said in the column "People of the Week": Li Ao "presided over the progressive publication Satellite in his early years, ... criticized the conservative cultural policies of the authorities and was imprisoned three times." The little-known Macau Daily also published an editorial on September 2 1 Sunday, saying, "Li Ao, a Taiwanese historian, writer and contemporary famous scholar ... provoked a cultural debate, criticized the conservative cultural policy of the authorities, and spread the concept of" freedom, democracy, openness and progress "and was imprisoned three times." Even the BBC Chinese website said that "Li Ao was imprisoned by Chiang Kai-shek's intelligence department for treason for publishing" Satellite Magazine "and was imprisoned three times before and after." Xu's book "A Study of the Kuomintang" says: Li Ao was imprisoned twice in 1970 1982, which lasted for ten years. Heilongjiang Daily said: Li Ao "was imprisoned for seven years because of persecution by Chiang Kai-shek." "China Youth Media" in an article "What attitude should we welcome Li Ao? According to the article, Li Ao "criticized the conservative cultural policy of the authorities and spread the idea of' freedom, democracy, openness and progress'" and was imprisoned three times. "Dry dragon. Com said: Li Ao was imprisoned for five years and eight months during the period of the two Chiang Kai-shek. "
As long as it conforms to the propaganda of the central government, the propaganda department of the CPC will give the green light, whether it is true or not. Even the simple question of Li Ao's imprisonment has aroused many different views.
All these statements confirm that Li Ao was sentenced to prison for making remarks that upset the authorities. But their statements are confusing on three issues, namely: what crime, how many times and how long. This aroused the author's interest, learned the method of "master" collecting information and "textual research", and finally found out the truth. I also understand why the "master" will avoid this experience.
According to Li Ao's Memoirs, Chronicle of the Li Ao Incident, Memoirs and Prison, Li Ao's Chronicle of Fifty Years (written by Li Ao above) and Litigation with Li Ao (written by Fan, Jiangsu Literature and Art Publishing House, May 2005), Li Ao * * * has had three lawsuits.
For the first time, 1967, aged 32, was charged with obstruction of official duties. It is absurd to say that the incident was caused by an old case 14 years ago. At that time, Li Ao 18 years old, senior three. His teacher was arrested for giving birth to Yan Qiao in party member. Li Ao took many photos of Jenny and three children because of the teacher-student relationship. 1966, Li Ao published such books as History and Human Image, Education and Facebook, Talking about Up and Down from Ancient Times to Modern Times, The Crow Cried Again, the Monkey King and I, which were hated by those in power. So the old story was brought up again, and the fact that 1953 conspired with Mr. Yan Qiao to sneak into the mainland was uncovered, and a public prosecution was filed on April 8, 1967. After this incident, he was sentenced to 1 year, but his mentor ran around in many ways and failed to go to prison to execute it. This is probably why some articles say that he was imprisoned twice, while others say that he was imprisoned three times. Actually, I didn't go to jail this time.
The second time 197 1 was arrested on the evening of March 19 at the age of 36. The cause of action is Taiwan independence. The cause of the incident was that Peng Mingmin, known as the godfather of Taiwan independence, fled illegally. At that time, Taiwan independence's power was still in its infancy. His two students, Xie Congmin and Wei Tingchao, are Peng Mingmin, the main cadres who participated in the activities in Taiwan independence. Li Ao was very close to them, and participated in some of their activities, even being promoted by them as an example of "mainlanders also participating in Taiwan independence". At that time, Chiang Kai-shek was still alive, and he adopted a severe policy of repression against Taiwan independence's activities. Peng, Xie, Wei and others hid in Tibet, and Li Ao gave them some financial support. Peng finally smuggled out of the country before being arrested by the authorities in June1970+1October, and Xie and Wei were arrested one after another. They gave up Li Ao at the trial. After a long period of house arrest and tracking, the intelligence department finally captured Li, and on February 28th, 1972, he was sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of 10 years for treason and deprived of public rights for 6 years. Li Ao did not appeal. 1975, Chiang Kai-shek died, Taiwan Province Province granted an Amnesty, and Li Ao got his sentence reduced, and September 22nd was changed to 8 years and 6 months. 1976165438+1October19 years old released from prison 4 1. The actual prison time is 5 years and 8 months.
The third time, 198 1 year, aged 46, the cause of action was breach of trust and embezzlement. The cause of the incident has to start with satellite magazines. This is a liberal monthly magazine founded on 1957 by Xiao Mengneng, son of Xiao Tongzi, former president of the Central News Agency. 196 1 26-year-old Li Ao retired from the national army, and Xiao boldly launched it and entrusted it with an important task. Li Ao published influential works such as The Old Man and Bones and Monologues under the Tradition Based on Satellites, which made him famous in one fell swoop. 1965, satellites magazine was banned, satellites bookstore was forced to close, creditors crowded, shaw had to flee to the island for temporary shelter. Before he left, he entrusted more than 20 million yuan of property to Li Ao, the most trusted trustee. He didn't want to return to China after half a year, but Li Ao took all the property he entrusted for himself, which forced Xiao to go to court. After two trials, Li Ao was convicted of corruption and sentenced to six months in prison. 1981September 10 went to prison and was released in March 1982.
