What is a Thai girdle?
What's the name of traditional clothes in Thailand? -Chuthai, literally means "Thai clothes". In Thailand's long history, Thailand's clothing is constantly evolving, and the clothing styles of different dynasties and regions are different. The six most prosperous periods of Thai clothing are Dharmapoti Kingdom, Lovo Kingdom, Sukhothai Kingdom, Dacheng Kingdom, Wuli Kingdom and Radanagoshin Kingdom.
During the Dharma Poti Kingdom
Thai clothing in this period was deeply influenced by Khmer and Indian culture. Men wear Indian-style waist cloth, occasionally with silk tops, while women cover their chests with a piece of cloth on the upper part and wear ankle-length skirts on the lower part. The history of this dynasty is little known.
Luowoguo period
During this period, "Dai people" began to migrate to Lovo. Modern Thai historians believe that these Dai people came from northern Viet Nam and Guangxi province in China. The fashion trend in this period was deeply influenced by the Khmer people. The woman's upper body is wrapped in a piece of cloth on her chest, occasionally topless and wearing a short apron. The man was naked, wearing a short apron and a metal belt around his waist.
Sukhothai period
Sukhothai Dynasty is the first independent dynasty in Thai history (1238 ~ 1438), with Sukhothai in northern Thailand as its capital. This former capital was listed as a World Heritage Park by UNESCO at 199 1. During this period, people began to express their newly acquired political identity through costumes, and gradually broke away from the influence of the Khmer people and formed their own unique clothing style.
Men in this period wore simple V-neck long-sleeved shirts with cloth on their shoulders and silk cloth around their waists, which were made of metal or gold belts. The woman is wearing a long silk dress and a long-sleeved coat.
Great city kingdom period
The big city kingdom lasted for more than 400 years and was one of the richest and most internationalized dynasties in the17th century. This great city kingdom is very friendly to foreign businessmen, including those from China, Viet Nam, Portugal, India, Japan, Korea, Persia, Spain, the Netherlands, Britain and France. They can do business here and set up villages outside the city.
Many clothing styles appeared in the period of big cities and were constantly influenced by other countries' cultures.
Throughout history, men and women in Thailand have been wearing a kind of loincloth called "Chong Kraben". The length of men's waist cloth is from waist to thigh, and that of women is from waist to below knee. They often bare their breasts, walk barefoot, or wrap a long silk cloth called Sabine on their chests.
